Sort of obvious that the dealer and the inspection station have a personal deal going between them..this is not unusual...and may not be illegal...depends on what if any favors/money/gifts pass between the dealer and the inspector..I have seen in NY where an inspection station has used exhaust emissions from one car to get another car to pass inspections...just shove the sensor up the exhaust pipe of another car.. You can cheat the system in several ways .
You should be able to get those two front windows done for around $65-70. If the back is involved also, it's gonna cost you more.
Man...Your right on the money. 65 for front 2, front 2 and back is 150.00. Guy seems to know what he is talking about, said he would put vinyl over the "dots" on the rear glass.
Think I'm just going with the 2 front windows for now.

That was my guess. Dealers usually use the same shop. The shop understands the needs. The dealer brings volume so deals are cut.
Texas had the Inspection law and all it took was a 20 spot in the right pocket and you passed. Florida has smog testing in only major population areas. Anything goes but you are subject to fines for stuff that would be a normal inspection item.
Being in law enforcement, I have seen what happens with tints darker than the legal law requires. It is not a good feeling to have run over someone because "Sorry Officer, I didn't see them crossing the road" or "I didn't really see that vehicle changing lanes Officer" all to look cool?????? It doesn't mean much unless you have lost someone because the the cause was too dark side widows. I droved my ex-brother inlaw's Mercedes Benz with 25% tints on both side windows at night, I couldn't tell if I was near or far from the car next to me, I had to open all windows and ask the occupants to help me park. The laws are design to make it safe for all, my rule, make it darker than the law, haul it to the shows cause it ain't street legal. It is not fare that they changed the rules on the guy with the tint, but looks like someone didn't do it right the first time. Good luck

Nice to see the dealer standing behind you,but I would like to know why the tint won't pass now. Good luck with this.
The dealer isn't standing behind him.. The dealer should "Replace" the tint for free to make the car legal. This case really could be won in small claims if what I've read is accurate.

I have had multiple runs with the law enforcement because I've always had quick (and loud) cars. After ~15 speeding (all under 85 mph) and 2 wreckless driving tickets (both doing dumb sh*t on backroads with no cars in sight), I still have no hard feelings toward law enforcement. My simple rule is: don't endanger anyone else by trying to have fun or look cool (that ALSO goes for you superbike riders that feel the need to pull wheelies at 80+ MPH going down the interstate as you pass my fiance and scare the hell out of her!). When you break the law, just accept the consequences.
All that being said, I still think that the OP got screwed because the inspector did the dealer a favor originally. I think that the OP should ask for the tint to be replaced with legal tint free of charge.
I'm still waiting on finding a vette (and selling my 08 350z). IMO, I think that simply driving a vette can bring enough attention from the police -- no need to bring any more just for a little extra tint. Moral of the story: KEEP IT LEGAL!
