First let me say this is a great forum. I found instuctions for installing an Ipod adaptor and lots of info on jacking pucks for my recently purchased 2001 ZO6. I've read all about how to fix my "service column lock" problem using search but have one question.. How do I tell if I have the GM K harness installed. It apparently needs to be removed when installing a CLB.
Some background
*DIC says service column lock
*the steering column is NOT locked. Does this mean the GM recall was done?
*I can hear something whiring when I remove the key
You will see the cheesball , 25 cent, GM K-harness , cheep-o relay when you install the CLB.
Mine is hanging on the wall in the garage along with about four sets of spider gears I knocked out of a Porsche 901 gearcase in a ZZ4 powered 912.
CLB = About a hour job..
I dont know why so many C5 owners get all fried and want to sue GM.... All things considered its a pretty small glitch that everyone here has been warned about for along time.

Primarily because they could easily come up with a fix of their own. Why would they not have the same thing as the CLB (as we all know that does in fact work)
I've had 2 occasions with the "Service column lock" message AFTER the recalls have been performed and mechanical "lock" had been removed. Still had the engine "die" at 2-3 MPH. Hauled it to the DEALER, and service department "Found problem in the relay harness. Bypassed harness and put back to OEM configuration. Now has no "service column lock" message. Left bypassed for now and verified operating
properly. Customer authorized leaving it in this configuration." This all from the Chevrolet DEALER. Hope this finds MANY C5 owners and helps solve this nagging problem.
