Thinking about doing this to go along with incoming air system I have on the way so id appreciate anyone who has done it (seen a few on here) and if any regrets etc...positives and negatives???? Also, I know you cut the hole out, (no turning back then)...but has anyone just plugged in a few half inch holes or something, sort of like the fog light vented screens ?????
I put on the Fog light screens because I had to hide the holes that I had cut out for my air filters. I put on the twin cone filters and they lined up perfectly with the fog light area, so I cut out a section, I believe that it was about 2x3 inch area beside the fog lights, then mounted the fog light screens so that nobody would notice. It looks and works great!
I cut two extra holes per side next to the fog light holes and did the licence cover cut out mod, behind the license cover mod I cut three large holes to draw in air,it def works because I get more dust in the engine compartment now but not excessive. No regrets,if you want to put a stock looking license cover back on ,just get a clear couture cover from Ecklers and paint the back side the body color, looks great.
I did the same things, the 3 3" holes behind the clear cover from Corvette Central painted from the back, that's so I can put the stock plate cover on if needed. Also did the holes behind the fog screens. Maybe different was I painted inside the plate area black. the torch red behind the screen looked a bit odd I thought, now all match very nicely. Wouldn't change it a bit. Saw the guy's car that started all this, I think, Yellow Z06, at Ft Pierce show last month. Tried to find him, but, lots going on. Wanted to thak him again for this really neat idea. My twin tube intake breathes much easier now.
If you don't want to dim the fog lights by placing screens in front of them, then I have an option for you, especially if you have a Blackwing or Halltech intake filter. This method directs cold outside air directly at the filter and into the engine bay - good news for prolonging the life of belts, hoses, batteries, electronics and anything made of an elastomer. This cold air mod procedure can be found here:

The K&N system comes with brackets that accomplish the same thing.
but this is a damn good idea....to make the others into CAI....instead of just aftermarket intakes.
Thanks. The K & N FIPK installation/modification procedure calls for cutting and bending the resulting radiator lower cover "flap" so that an air gap of less than an inch is created. While this does allow some air to be pushed in and around the filter, the polycarbonate scoop I specify channels much more air at the air filter - kinda like a super-scoop!
