2002 c5 fuel gauge problem
Hi Vetteheads my father has just bought 2002 C5 coupe, lovely car but has an intermitent fuel gauge, one minute reading O.K another time it goes to empty, I have heard there is a bit of a problem with these.
Any idea's where to look first
Thanks Tony from the U.K

I have a 98 coupe, 75k miles, plagued by the fuel gauge problem. Seafoam, techron nothing worked so I am living with it. I have heard someone mention that it's possible to increase the threshold at which the gauge knocks out. I don't know the specifics but when the gauge does not hear from the tank for x seconds it drops to 0. It is possible to increase that timeout window to fix this problem.

If/when fuel system cleaner or seafoam don't work for you, you'll just have to replace the fuel level sensors in your tanks.

Try running a couple of bottles of Techron through the gas. It is designed to help remove sulfur build-up on the sending units.

It will depend on how far gone your sensors are will determine if Seafoam, Techron or BG 44K will work. You may have to have the sensors replaced 1st then use Techron or 44K once a month to keep it clean along with using Shell or another high tier gas faithfully.
