Well this morning I went out to my 01 z06 and went to go start it. Well nothing happened the lights came on and everything but nothing turned over. I figured I left something on where there was just enough juice to keep the lights on. Well I tried jumping it and nothing. I heard a pump kick on and the check gages light came on. Well when I came home from work I looked in the owners manual and it basically said its the theft deterant system and use your special key. Well there was no extra key and I tried using the other key thinking something was wrong with the one ive been using. Still doing the same thing. Now that I think of it the other day at work I started the car and moved it twice and somethin came up in the information system saying remove key for 10 seconds it was something like that. Has anyone been faced with this problem and what should I do. Id like to drive my car to work tomorrow, its only been a day and I miss it already haha.
Its the good ole, Column Lock issue. You need to buy a Column Lock Bypass from one of the supporting vendors. This will fix the issue and you'll be worry free. This issue had my Vette stuck an hour+ away at the lake. Had to wait a week to get back to her, I ordered one and had to wait til the weekend to install it. Very easy to install. Good Luck!
That is one of the classic symptoms for the column lock problem but I'm thinking that it may be a VATS issue. Are you getting the Security light on all the time? The way the system works is that the car's computer gets a signal from the pellet on you key. Once it has that signal it allows fuel to flow and the car starts. If it doesn't get it, it stays dead.
First thing is to clean that pellet on both keys really well with denatured alcohol. If its clean, move it around in the ignition barrel and see if you can get rid of the security light. If so, it may be that the key is not making proper contact and you have a problem with the ignition barrel itself. They can wear a little.
Are you hanging heavy stuff on the key chain? That can cause a bad contact. If so try just the key.
Of course there is a chance that its just the column lock. Do you have a CLB fitted and can you hear the lock cycling. Is the wheel turning freely when the keys in?
