I bought an 04 Coupe about a month ago. It had a little over 4000 mile on it. I took it on a drive the the other day to my daughters. She lives about 150 miles away. I noticed when I got there that I was hearing something in the brakes I think it sounded like metal rubbing metal. I took it to the Chevy dealer yesterday and they checked it out and said that there was some rust and corrosion on the brakes. They did a brake test and everything was fine. It seemed like it would make the sound when I was slowing down when braking then you may not hear anything the next time you stop at the next intersection. They did take all the wheels off and cleaned the brakes....... anxious to see if the sound is gone.

Reason: spelling
Sounds completely plausible to me. A 5 year old car, only 4000 miles, probably not driven hard or had the brakes heated up many times, washed often, will build up corrosion on the rotor and pad surface. The pads are semi-METALic.

Next time just use your brakes liberally during a couple hard decelerations. That will clean all that dirty old rust off and you'll have fun doing it.

I have a weekend driver with low miles and even after sitting just a few days, moisture (live in Florida) can build up on the surface. I have aftermarket Baer Eradispeed rotors and ceramic pads and notice that I will get a squeal when applying soft pressure.
I fixed that by making a couple hard stops each drive (safely of course) to help wipe off the rotors.
My truck was sitting for 6 months while I was out of the area and took a few minutes to get all the gunk off the rotors/pads. No worries, just have fun accelerating and hitting the brakes a few times!
A few passes at the strip on Test and Tune night will warm/clean them right up!! A good push on the pedal at 105-110 will have the rotors shinning bright!! For the life of me I can not understand the concept of a five year old car with 4,000 miles!! I often average 900 to 1,000 a month! I have put almost 14,000 in 16 months,,with only 2 1,200mi. trips. will probably come close to doubling that this summer if all the plans go as planed. We hope to make a trip to Texas and another to Great Falls Montana,,,,WaaHooo!! Hope you plan to get that puppy on the road and enjoy!! If I have my way I intent to put multiple six figure digits on the odometer! My FRC will certainly not be a collectors item when I'm done with it!!
