The chip in your key might be going haywire. A new key did the trick for me. $19.95@Ace Hardware
Ah ok,
so you had the same error message????
The stealership wanted to charge me $95 to diagnose the problem. I'm sure you know where I told them to go!
Thats the biggest rip off! No moron, your not going to charge me to tell me whats wrong with my car and then charge me to fix it, your going to look at it for free and tell me how much it costs to fix it.
I love the Vette, but hate dealing with the stealership!!
Nope, its not that. I had the column lock recall done.
You are assuming that because you had the column lock service performed that the problem is gone for ever??? Boy are you mislead.............
Just do a search for the "Pull Key and Wait 10 Seconds" message for the past two weeks and see how many hits you will get for just 2 weeks. If you are getting that message and the car dies, then you are experiencing a failure of the column lock system, which, once the recall has been done, results in a fuel shutoff.
Not that, just installed a new optima red top two months ago
Do not assume. New does not mean it is good. Get the battery checked. It is easy to do and will rule out the possibility the battery is causing your error. A weak battery has been known to cause repeated PULL KEY WAIT 10 SEC errors. I put my car on a charger when not in use and I have not seen this error in at least 4 years.
The battery may be good but in need of a charge. If you do not drive the car everyday, you might consider putting it on a battery tender and bring it up to full charge to see if your issue goes away. Good luck with it.

You stated that you had the column lock recall performed. I have no idea which version you had done - but assuming that it was the earliest version....
GM decided that if a column lock condition was detected, the vehicle shop be inoperative. Before the recall - theoretically, the car could be driven with the column locked which is a little unsafe. So - in their minds, the way to address the issue was to alter the fuel table, if the condition was detected, the fuel would be cutoff at 1.5 mph.
The solution at this point is to have someone with programming software like HP Tuners or someone with a Tech II tool, go into the fuel table and raise the cutoff mph to 255 (maximum).

I did this to mine.. whenever I randomly get the message (not often, but occasionally), I just turn the car off and wait and start it back up. I understand that I could drive the car with this message because I changed the setting with HP Tuners as I did drive a short period before noticing the message. Will this message eventually go away while driving, or is the only way to get rid of it to turn the car off and back on?
FWIW, I do hear the CL motor move every time the car is turned on/off.
EDIT: Nevermind, from what I understand in my case, the recall was done by the previous owner because I had the stalling issue, but I fixed that with HP Tuners. Looks like I have to deal with the occasional message on the DIC, but it doesn't affect anything because my column cannot lock... it's just annoying. A CLB may or may not fix it because they are somewhat unreliable on the 97-00 At least I know I won't have any issues with it aside from a message.

I had the colum lock recall as well and then it started locking, Install a clb. It will go away.
wrong, the CLB will not eliminate the pul key messages - in fact the early year cars can see it after CLB installs. There was a post about some ground you could clean to help with this...
