Started removing my BSM's today and got the left front one removed and I can see a very slight color difference. Car has never been painted and is in remarkable condition for a 2001. I can see a slight color fading and would hate to continue if removing the larger door piece will give the same shade difference or magnify it. The color difference you see is from different settings on the camera.
Should I continue?? Would you?
thanks in advance, Barry
If you are absolutely positive that the car has never been repainted for any reason, it's probably just a case of a little sun fading. A slight buffing job will blend it in nicely. If it doesn't fix it completely, it will hide it very well. If it looks similar to this on the other side it is probably sun fading. If it doesn't, the driver side may have been painted.

There is no paint line and it has never been painted. What kind of blending are you refering to. It is smooth as glass right now. Cleaned and clay barred and waxed.
thanks
It must have seen it's share of sun. I don't remember other people who removed the BSMs have this. If your **** like me (and it sounds like you are) I would stop since it would bug me to no end. It's pretty obvious. See if a body shop will buff that one section and see if it goes away. I would agree with the other poster, it should buff and not be noticable. As long as your willing to part with $250 or more for a complete buff. But if you hate the BSMs then it may be worth it.
the color of the base coat does not get faded by the sun, only the upper layer of the clear coat. it can most likely be buffed out. if not, some 2000 grit sandpaper and then a buff will do the job. good luck!

I had a zink yellow Mustang before the vette, and it had 10" strippes going from the hood all the way to the back bumper, and I took them off and put them off twice. I had the same effect, but a good wax job took care of it. I left it out in the sun for a few days, and the discoloration/overcoloration underneath the stripes blended in with the rest of the car.
