When Chevrolet comes out with each generation Vette they identify what the car's top speed is. The C5 LS1 was 168, the 05 LS2 was 180 and the LS3 was 186. The ZR1 is 205. I couldn't find the Z06 but I think it is 196 mph.

The engineers doing the testing that yielded the 180 for the LS2 taped up the fog light area and put the mirrors in the pushed back position. The went out onto the track and posted a 184 top speed. All of the top speed ratings for the Vettes is in 5 th gear as they will slow down in 6th. This even applies to the ZR1.

At very high speeds small things can make a difference. The pop up lights on the C5 would have a big impact on top speed. Don't think so. Just stick out a ping pong paddle flat to the wind at just 100. Bet you can't do it.

186,300 Miles/second. After that, they're pretty much pointless.

.....of course so are your brakes.

What's the point of 6th then?

better gas mileage for cruise.

I thought that the ZR1 was the first Vette to reach top speed in 6th...

Top speed is higher in coupes than ZO6s for C5s.

Top speed from the manufacturer for the coupe was 175 and 171 for the ZO6. The ZR1 is the first Vette to have different gearing for 6th that in fact allows it to reach top speed in 6th.

I have a solution, how about a pop up light with low profile lights, in other words instead of popping up the full height of the stock present positon, they just pop up about 4 inches with lower profile headlights. Best of both world. Now who wants to attempt this modification and post it on this web for viewers feedback? I'm thinking about it, but haven't started the engineering process. I think it will keep the vette theme and improve aero in the wind tunnel test. But I could be wrong...

There is a german kit that does this using Hella's 50mm projectors. It's VERY expensive thought (around $1500)

"Morlok" on digitalcorvettes did his setup with a single Bi-xenon projector:

Already been done. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-their-c5.html

We're working on a better looking housing for it so it looks more professional and presentable.
