ques about 1999 vette.

Particulary is you have a manual transmission vehicle, your '99 falls under the 'suspect' oil consumption umbrella.
I have never heard that...my 99 has never had any oil issues. Even onthis forum I have never heard anything about oil consumption issues except for 01's. But...thats not to say I may have missed a post or two.
j/k Applies to 1999 -2002. Actually, I thought it only applied to 2001 also. Maybe because that is what I have seen and heard about. Here is a link.

Thanks for the info...

like you I had only heard the issues with 01...learn something new everyday.
I am thinking that with 100K plus miles and a blower my warranty is out the window anyway

If one or some work then most likely you have a bad sensor..if none are reading then they may have been removed.
I'm not surprised at all that many single out the '01 Z06 as the problem child because the LS6 brought the oil issue to its zenith as the GMPT engineers were finally able to make some sense of the origins.
There is no reliability or wear issue but burning / consuming oil isn't good for the engine and particularly it's emissions control devices, which is why so many have turned to improvements such as an oil catch can to supplement the OEM oil seperator/ baffle in the PVC system. I support the idea that all LS1 engine ungrade to the LS6's oil seperators location to help promote the PVC oil vapor control if your particular engine is suspect.
I now own three C5s, two 2000 FRCes and my 2001 Z06 (late production date of June 19th 2001). So my motivations for researching the truth from otherwise distorted or maligned information that was being passed forward thru out the Corvette community was at first self interest. I was tired of hearing about the 'bastard' '01 Z06 simply because my car did not have the imposing symptoms( I drive like an old lady in my advancing years and because of my extensive auto collection , don't put on a lot of mileage) . I have replied to many threads on this subject , using responsible references and resources to give creedence to this subject .
I was inspired by Dave68's research into the oil seperator and how to improve its effectiveness. I now have , on all my C5s dual Mike Norris oil catch cans that are modified with particulate and coalescing filters which are relatively inexpensive and effective.
This subject has long been misconstrued by misinformation and internet exaggeration. But heck it took the GMPT engineers upwards of 6,7 8 years to understand what the dynamics were. Bringing to light the underlying causes of the GEN 3 oil consumption issue that plague all GEN 3 engines can only be helpful to debunk the stigma that has followed not just the '01 LS6 but all GEN 3 engines.
