Default Window Valet Causing Electrical Problems??

I have had a Window Valet on my 2000 Vert for the last year or so, and during that time I have a few random electrical issues that I cannot seem to replicate for the dealer. First, the directional signals (blinkers) randomly stop working, and will only start working again after I let the hazards flash a few times, and that doesn't even work all of the time. Second, my driver's side window does not always roll down when I press the toneau cover release button, again it is not every time, but it does happen more often than I would like (which is never)! The reason I am thinking it may be the Window Valet is because the only time that these issues stop happening is when the Window Valet is not installed. I recently took it to the dealer for a check-up since my GMPP warranty expired earlier this week and to get all of these issues looked at they could not replicate any of them (I had removed the WV before dropping it off). They kept my car for 2 days trying to get it to malfunction, but to no avail. Since that time I have not put the Window Valet back in the car and I have not had any issues.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to find out if anyone else has experienced this issue? I love my Window Valet and will probably still continue to use it, but I need to know if I'm going crazy or not.

I appreciate any input you can offer!

I'd start with the connections in the door hinge area. Pull back the rubber gaiter and look for chafing of the wiring. Its a common problem. If you check the DIC codes you'll find loads of U codes which suggest power glitches.

The window valet wont cause those issues.

Yeah, I thought of that, and surprisingly so did the dealer. Theey checked everyting, and There were no pinched wires, no chafed wires, and no DIC codes at all.

They did tell me that they updated the programming of the PCM and it was possible that these electrical issues were fixed by the update, but they made no promises.

Maybe I should just put the Window Valet back in and see if these issues come back. After almost a week of driving so far, I have not had any problems since the WV was removed, before they occurred almost every time I got in the car.

Your turn signal problem is most likely the hazzard switch - very common C5 problem. You can either replace the hazzard switch, or there is a vendor that makes a bypass kit.

I guess you could also check with Top Down Tech to see if they have had any reports of WV's causing problems llike yours

I've been using a Window Valet for over three years now and zero electrical gremlins. I've also had to replace the hazard switch early after purchasing the car because it fit the OP's description to a T.

In that case put it back in and see how you go

No codes - weird. Did you check them out or are you going on what the dealer said?

I checked the DIC myself before taking it into the dealer and didn't find any codes at all. The dealer only backed-up what I determined on my own.

Regarding the hazard switch replacement, is it the physical button on the dash itself that I would need to replace or some other component related to the hazard flashers?

Thanks for the suggestions!

No its the button. It has a number of functions in there

You can also bypass it. Try a search on hazard switch bypass.

No problems with mine here on a 2000 for several years. Sounds like you are onto it with the Hazard switch. This forum rocks - great info. Good luck with your repair.

I would be very interested to know how this problem gets resolved. I have been thinking about getting the window valet. Primarily to ease entry and exit, in one tight garage spot I have at home, I think it would be nice to have.

So, I haven't had a chance to put the Window Valet back in yet, but my turn signal issue has come back since i last posted. I am going to try to replace the hazard switch to see if that helps. I can now say that I do not think it is related to the Window Valet at all.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Default window valet

In my case I'm convinced WV is the exact cause of gremlins. I've had WV in my 03 vert for 6 years. A few months after putting it in my car I would intermittently get abs, traction control errors while driving. As soon as I would get home I would shut off the engine and put my code reader on and it would never show a code. I checked all the grounds and tightened the battery cable and then started the car and the problem would disappear only to show up some weeks later. I only drive the car on weekends.
Today I drove to work and while on the freeway almost every gauge went haywire including the dic. I made it to work and it was still doing it on the way home too. While sitting at a stop light, I was thinking what it might be and decided to remove the WV. I pulled it off while at the light and all my gauges went back to normal. My door locks and Windows also began working. I was so relieved. So if you have gremlins I would start with the WV.

I had the WV installed for a couple of months when I experienced pretty much the same problems. I thought they were related so I removed the WV but the problems didn't go away. I took apart and cleaned the two ground blocks on the frame rails under the hood (per Bill Curlee's electrical thread), and cleaned and taped up the connectors inside the two door accordions. All my problems disappeared and haven't returned. Just realized that was 20 months ago!

Mine only does this if I roll the windows down from the switch and try to raise them with the WV. If I lower them with the WV, I don't have this problem. Not sure why.

Not sure about the horn but if the windows go up and then come down again the WV needs recalibrating. Check the instruction manual for the How To

I have the problem with the windows going up then the horn blows and the windows go back down. Always happens when the WV is plugged in when I have my battery tender hooked up. If I disconnect the battery tender, it works fine.
