I for one do not drive in the rain. That is by my own personal choice. The main reason I don't drive in the rain or any inclement weather is I want to look as close to show room condition as possible. Like most of us, I worked hard all of my life and have dreamed of owning a vette since I can remember. I don't like the thought of driving it on a rainy day or any other inclement weather. Like all other cars it can get real dirty, not to mention the thought that I have to rely on the Memphis drivers being as careful as I am while driving it. I also show it locally and you cannot imagine the compliments that I have received for my efforts. Some individuals beleive it's new, although it's 8 years old. I must say I take extreme care of my car and I will always will as long as I am able.
I also do not drive in the rain. I have a DD to do that.
I like to keep the car looking good - just a pride thing.
Also in the rain these cars turn into just another hunk of metal on the road. The car loses all it's performance capability in the rain, levels the playing field way too much

This is the biggest bunch of bunk I have read in a long time. I drive mine everyday rain or shine and it is a clean car, I am not to lazy to keep it clean, It is my DD. You can drive it everyday rain or shine and still have pride in it..... Rain won't hurt a darn thing, Just takes a little work keeping it clean and I have no trouble with working on it.....
I don't know how many posts I've read that start out with....."weird electrical problem - possibly corroded ground connection...." or "Why are the udders full of wet leaves and other junk?" ....or how about this one...."I was stooped at a light and without hearing anything to alert me, I was slammed against my seat when this lady in a big sedan slid into me!"
My experience has made sure I always have a rainy day vehicle that is NOT a Corvette. No, Corvettes don't melt, but moisture does find its way into the engine bay and does accelerate corrosion. Even stainless steel exhaust systems will corrode in areas where there is not free-flowing oxygen. And as someone mentioned, driving in the rain is more hazardous, not only because massive torque is always available, but because many other drivers don't know how to drive on wet roads.
And we thank you for taking the depreciation hit so we can drive them when you're done.
It's my first, and last Corvette. I've got so much money tied up in mine that I never plan on selling it. My son will take the "hit" because he gets the car if something happens to me.
Now this is a funny thread, No issues with the rain, Only some owners have issues with rain, I drive mine everyday rain or shine, Some owners think if it gets wet it will melt....
I could understand no rain if it was an exotic car or a 100.000$ car....
Once again, why does it bother some people that others don't wish to drive their car in the rain? For many of us, these cars were purchased for weekend and/or pleasure driving only. Why do you people give a rat's a$$ about what other people do their vettes? My car was a 14k mile garage queen when I purchased it. It looked freakin brand new- I thought it was great. And I certainly didn't deride the guy for not driving it in the rain (as I assume some of you would have). I drive my truck to work and my vette when the weather is nice. It's as simple as that. Two weeks ago, I took my car out in the rain to keep an appointment for an alignment. I later regretted that decision. No, it didn't melt but getting the undercarriage back to the condition I wanted it in was a lot of work. I will not own another sports car- this is it for me (not rich enough to keep buying these cars- house, family, etc). Excuse me if I want to keep it looking as new as possible.
My C5 has never beein driven in the rain. I bought a convertible to drive with the top down, and doing that in the rain isn't part of the plan. I bought a C6 to be a daily driver rain or shine.
My Dad was an engineer for GM for 30+ years. If the guys that keep these cars in the garage could see how the C-5 was tested for extremes as far as weather goes they would feel pretty stupid.
My car is not a daily driver. Only a fair weather car. However, I choose not to drive it in the rain because I like it to look a certain way (clean) all the time and it's very difficult to clean after a good drive in the rain.
Mine is an 03 with 24k miles on it. I don't drive it in the rain because I don't want to have to clean it. I have a DD truck and it's enough cleaning it after driving it in the rain. Makes absolutely no sense for ME to drive a clean car in the rain when I already have a dirty on in the driveway.
As far as miles go, yes it spends most of it's time in the garage but when the weather is nice and I have time to drive it, I do every time. Since I started my IT company in 2006, I haven't had alot of free time so it sits; not really a good idea to drive a Z06 to a customer site, you'd be surprised how pissy some people can get. The woe's of being self employed.
Mine gets caught in the rain once in a while.
We like to travel in our Vette, so if we are away on vacation and it rains it gets wet and dirty.
Same goes when we are at home. If there is a planned event, chances are it might get wet.
Washing and detailing the Vette are jobs I truly like doing. It's a kind of stress relief for me. When it's all finished I stand back and admire what a great job I did cleaning this beautiful beast.
I also believe that if you live your life by following the weather forecast you and your Vette will never leave the Garage. You will also miss out on some fantastic events and awesome cruising days.
