Default Tire size to rim width question

I currently have the stock tire sizes
Front Size: 245/45-17
Rear Size: 275/40-18

I'm looking at new rims to put these on. What size width is safe to use with these. Would 17X9.5,18X10.5 or 17X9.5,18X9.5 work without any problems?

The 245/45/17 will fit rim widths up to 9". The 275/40/18 will fit rim widths up to 11". I got this info from Tire Rack by selecting the size then the brand then clicking on SPECS and looking under the Rim Width Range column. Try your brand tire but I doubt you will find a different set of max widths.

You will be fine with 17x9.5s. Most members sticking with 17s run 17x9.5s on stock size tires including myself.

Just about the only size rims you will find in the small 17x8.5s are stock or thin spoke repros.

If you want 18x10.5s I would go with the Z06 sizes. You can run them on stocks if you need to, but we suggest the bigger sizes.

Unless you are going to be tracking the car the 1/2' should not be a problem. The tires may seem stretched a little when mounted but many have used the stock C5 tires on Z06 rims. In my local club we have several that have done this. The rim size you like is the stock Z06 rim width.

C5: STANDARD THIN SPOKE

Front 17x8.5 - 58mm
Rear 18x9.5 - 65mm

C5: Z06

Front 17x9.5 - 54mm
Rear 18x10.5 - 58mm

Next time you need tires bump up to the Z06 tire sizes.

Thanks for the reply. Yea i should have researched tires more before hand. I was rushed to buy tires when I first bought the car because the car was undriveable with the current tires. 40k on the orginal runflats was scary. thanks for the help tho

Yes I'm afraid. The ETA I gave you still stands. Our suppliers are out. That's why nobody has them right now.
