It depends a lot on the type of driving you are doing, and the outside temp.

On my 04, on an 80 degree day just cruising down the highway I will run in the high 190's, City driving will cause it to rise a little and on a hot day 90's in the city I've see it get close to 220.

Thanks Larry,I like to shift manually sometimes and I thought that might run the temp up but guess that's not the case .If I'm getting temps of 175 there is def. something wrong with the sensor. Probably need to take it to a transmission shop .Thanks again.

It could be just the sensor is going bad. Wait and see if you get any other responses before you go to a trans shop. (Unless you know the guys personally my experience with trans shops is that most of them are bandits)

This might not be much help, and may not even answer your question, but here's a post for a couple of days ago. My A4/C5 with minor mods, depending on outside temps, in the South, our temps easily approach 98-99 degrees with humidity even up with the temps. On a wide range from winter to summer, I guess I've seen mine run from 165, to 215.

You may have to go to "tech" with this one.
