So I got back in town the other day and the wife was cool enough to suprise me by picking me up in the Vette, I thought it was cool of her to do. Well she is much shorter than me and I went to get in the car and the memory button would not work, the seat was too far forward to get in all the way. I rolled down the window and had to close the door and press the button that way... Okay I know I could do the easy entry thing but she rarely drives the car (second time in 2 years) and I'm a big guy so I didn't want to put extra wear on the seat motor. I was just wondering if this was normal, did they really design it that the memory button doesn't work with the door open, is there an easy fix?
seems to me my 97 does not move if the door is open - I found this in the 04 owners manual:
When first entering your vehicle, after pressing the
unlock button on your remote keyless entry transmitter
or a MEMORY button, a recall of your settings will
occur when the door is closed and the ignition key is
in the ignition switch. As the memory settings are
recalled, the light above the button will flash until the
correct settings
Not sure if this is working properly or not but here is what I have found. Let's say I go out and unlock the 2000 Vert with the key fob, get in and insert the key my seat will go to my setting upon iserting the key. Now I stop remove the key, seat moves back to allow easy exit. I close the door do what ever I got out for and don't lock the door, when I return and get in insert the key, nothing happens. I can not even get the seat to move using the memory button. What I have found is that I'm required to unlock the door with the fob even if it is not truly locked, after doing that, everything will work just fine. I have always assumed that was GM's way of training us to always lock our Vetts no mattet what, when, or where. Good habit I guess, but not sure if all that is what is really suppose to happen or not. I think it also has to do with the car knowing which setting to use, based on which fob has been used yours or the spouse's. If this is not correct I'd like to know but seems right. ..."pear"
The memory settings in my '00 did not work unless the door was closed.
On my '00 coupe the memory settings do not work unless I have the door closed. I do not need to use the easy entry/exit setting, so that is not set, but If I move the seat, next time I get in, close the door and insert key, the seat adjusts to where I had it last time I set the memory maps.
Well at least I'm not alone... I know the preset will work when I get in, but the problem was that I couldn't with the seat all the way up. I guess I could go two different ways with this, either remember to tell her to press the preset on the way out or tell her due to a GM design she will not be able to drive anymore Just wonder what the concern was with moving the seat when the door was open?

98 and my memory seat does not work with the door open. Wife is 4'9", I'm 5'8" scary getting in the car after she drives it. Almost got my ribs crushed by the steering wheel a couple of times.
Here's what I've found and researched over the last 9 years for my 2000: It would seem like it works some times, but not others. Remember that the Memory function works in conjunction with the two assigned Key Fobs as well. Here's some rules or scenarios for the memory system to work as designed:
1) If your wife used "her" fob when picking you up, then it would think it was still her.
2) The memory doesn't work until the door is closed.
3) If the car wasn't security enabled/locked the memory function is disabled, or in other words...it assumes the same person is getting back in the car that had last left.

If you exit the car and do not lock the car then the memory function will not trigger when you re-enter and insert the key.

Ya that was one problem, she just pulled up at the airport, tossed luggage in the back and I attempted to hop behind the wheel. She hardly ever drives and doesn't even get a preset. 1&2 are mine (diferent A/C temps) and 3 points mirrors down for backing into parking spots... I've learned worst case I can drop the window and reach into press the button. Just thought it was a wierd design... Thanks for all the input.
