Well, we went to a dealership today and tried out a C5 'vert. We have no intentions of buying from a dealer, but there are literally no private sellers within an hour of us. Headroom was GREAT! Noise level was just fine. Manual top was a cinch to handle. You guys are great! Thanks for the advice, everyone!
Now, if we can get the issue of the Traction Control light staying lit on the dash solved, we just might have found our C5! I've posted a question to the Tech forum for advice on that.
We also went from a Miata SE to our vette. We found that down here with all the heat and HUMIDITY that you didnt have many days to ride around topless! Even the coupe has only had the targa out twice.
I had a Miata for almost ten years. They are a great car, fun and inexpensive to drive and very reliable. I just got tired of it. I have had a Vette (00 vert) for 15 months and have put about 11K miles on it. Truthfully, I still do not trust the reliability of the Vette after the Miata set the standard and trust is number one with any car. You know all the obvious variables: the vette is faster, quicker, easier to drive on the highway, safer if driven responsibly and more comfortable. The vette downside is road noise (B-Quiet or Dynamat will fix that), expensive (due to vette tax, low reliability and somewhat lower mileage). Everything is a tradeoff. I would not go back to the Miata, been there and done that.
The Miata is DH's daily driver and will continue to be. It's been very reliable, with a few glitches here and there. He's been able to work on almost all of it by himself, including a new wiring harness and replacing the airbag module. We are very well acquainted with the backside of the dash on that car. LOL
He's a very conservative driver. We're more worried about the other guy. Years ago, when we lived in Orlando, he drove a motorcycle back and forth to the Navy base. TWICE he was forced to run up over the curb to avoid being hit by inconsiderate drivers. He's always been cautious, but this made him even more so.
Vert all the way. Minor sound increase over the coup but not so much you get annoyed by it. Cleaner lines when top down and if you like showing your car the vert is great looking with top down, really get to see all the interior mods better. The vert gets a few more dollars on value too and in cool weather a blast to drop the top. Go vert.......
if u really want a vert but have to have the look of an FRC u can buy the removable hardtop, kind of defeats the purpose of the vert tho, and the ease of just putting the top down and it gives it a different look once in a while which is something the frc's and coupes cant do. and its not just vert owners who think verts look good theres lots of opinions out there maybe its just coupe owners or frc owners who think theirs look good J/K i love them all
this is my 2nd vert love them ! I read that the windshield frame is roll bar strength. Not sure if its true but I also think it is not easy to roll one of these. Go for it ....its the best vette in my opinion.
