Default HID Ballast Mounting?

Does everyone just use heavy duty 3m double sided tape? I am getting this done today and am wondering what the best way to mount is. My HID came with metal brackets and I have seen them mounted with the tape and brackets together....any info would be great! Thanks all.

I just put the tape on the ballast itself. Be sure to clean both surfaces well and you shouldn't have any problems

The metal brackets will be more secure than the tape will. Just bolt the brackets form the top and bottom to keep it in place.

if you do use the tape, makes sure to mount it on a metal support structure (frame subframe etc) DO NOT mount it to a body panel.

I've always wondered where the best location is to mount these ballasts? Any pics?

I screwed mine in place. I have had to many incidents where the tape would hold for a bit, and then fail.

Either is fine. As long as you use good tape and prep the area you should have no problems. Make sure you mount it where the wires won't get caught up in the headlight operations. There is tons of space in the C5 for this.

Here are a couple. I've got three sets of ballasts on both sides since this pic, which only shows two. Both of these are bolted down using the metal brackets.

On my third set of ballasts, I was able to bolt it in on the driver side, but had no choice other than to use heavy duty double sided tape to adhere it to the other ballast on the passenger side due to the different configuration under there.

I like using the frame rails with the ballast mounted using tape and a long black zip tie for security. Point the connections down as to avoid water.
