Well I was in a car accident coming home from work yesterday. An Explorer cut across 2 lanes of traffic and hit me into the median. Car is pretty scratched up with a few cracks under the bumper from the curb. It's driveable, but something is off. I don't know what but the car doesnt feel the way it did (if that makes sense).
My question is...what problems (if any) normally arise from a hard side impact. The point of impact was the passenger front fender. I don't want her insurance company thinking I'm trying to make a quick buck. I just want my car to be the same as it was. Thanks in advance!
I don't know what they're called but the middle air-dam broke off. Also there's 2 "beams" right under the front bumper that are really banged up. I was just curious if it's normal for anything mechanical to go wrong in such an accident. Car was smoking afterwards and was smoking after I drove it home...hopefully it's nothing too bad.
Sorry to hear about the accident, hopefully nobody was injured. I would absolutely take it to a reputable shop that does alignment and frame work and have it checked over carefully.

Take it to a shop you trust and have them thoroughly check the car out before you accept any settlement from the insurance company. Hopefully there is nothing major wrong with the car. Best of luck getting it fixed.
Thanks guys I really appreciate it. No one was injured. I'm taking it to a few places Monday, but I know her claims adjuster isn't going to be happy. New front bumper and fender for sure. Paint better match, because I've heard stories where it rarely matches, being that I guess black is a hard color to blend with a 6 year old paint job.
Smoking out the exhaust or where? Alignment is a minimum, possible bent wheels, wheel bearings and/or brakes may have been damaged as well. You reall need to get under it to see for yourself.

It appears to be smoking from under the engine. Maybe the oil pan? I did hit that curb hard and had to drive off it. The angle the car was I think I scratched something underneath. Only reason I drove off the curb was because I thought she was running. After she hit me she kept driving, and I wasn't about to let her get away so I drove off and followed her...fortunately she pulled right over.
your car needs to be checked Very thoroughly - high chance there is hiden damage - that curb could have damaged a lot of things - I would not drive it again until fixed - the adjuster does not have to "like it' - demand a rental car and repair by a reputable shop.
BTW - the Explorer did not cut across 2 lanes - the IDIOT drivng it did! Forest Gump was right .."stupid is as stupid does".

Seriously you need to get under there. If its oil type smoke/smell, you may have a hole in the pan or similar. Something isn't right for sure...not forgetting that oil is flammable. Glad she didn't get away.

Reading the rest of your posts makes me think you might have some mechanical problems, and hey, people pay insurance for just this type of thing. Sounds like the Explorer driver was wrong, cops involved, tickets issued? I think you need it professionally inspected.
She was really in the wrong. Here in California we have a law that you need a hands-free device to talk on your cell while driving, she had no device. She was on her phone when she hit me, and admitted guilt. Probably the reason she didn't hear me slam on my horn. Her car has 1 scratch whereas mine has a lot of scratches, but most of the damage is underneath the front bumper. It's scratched and cracked. I'm really upset about my wheels. Theyre all scratched up and got them for my bday as a gift. They're just C6 Z06 wheels, but being they were a gift, they meant a lot to me...lol. Does anyone know how long it normally takes for an adjuster to come inspect my vehicle. It's kinda depressing to look at, so I want it fixed as soon as possible. Thanks for the comments!
