Because the source of most of the problems is that the actuator, which is a type of motor, has gone bad. The computer can sense the current draw of the actuator and if it is not the proper amount, it can be fooled into thinking that the actuator is in an improper position such as being engaged into the locking plate, even if it is not. So, even if the locking plate is gone, if the computer thinks the actuator is engaged into the locking plate, it will cut off your engine. That is why the COH CLB disables the circuit to the actuator. It replaces that circuit with its own which simulates the load of a functional actuator.

I thought the computer knew the postion of the OEM lock mechanism by inputs from position switches, not by current draw of the lock actuator motor. :bb Don't the aftermarket CLB units have relays to simulate the lock and unlocked position signal of the lock mechanism so the computer is fooled into thinking the OEM lock system is working correctly?
You know, I'm no genius, nor do I pretend to be, but if you haven't already installed the CLB from COH (or elsewhere) then you are just plain not listening! THE GM FIX DOES NOT WORK CONSISTENTLY!
Darn, somebody should make this a big bold sticky at the top of each forum. Stop with the new Column Lock threads.
I get at least 2 calls a day with this same question. It is either instalation error or, If the driver "or transister" in the BCM for the column lock is already damaged or weaked from the million plus times it has been used every time you start your car the clb will not fix it. It is a preventative. The clb does not replace the driver. If the integrity of the BCM is good you will not have a problem.
We installed the CLB within 1,000 miles of the car being brand new. I'm the first and only owner. The lock wasn't damaged from a lot of use. I'm not sure what you mean by "the driver". I assume you don't mean me...

by the driver i mean the transister inside body control module that drives the electrical circuit for the column lock.
Neither will getting the CofH column lock bypass ottawa escorts completely fix things. I have ottawa escort one in and it is doing what it's supposed to do. However, since putting it in I have twice had the car stall immediately after starting and give me a Pull Key and wait 10 ottawa asian escorts seconds error message. The steering wheel can be ottawa asian escort turned fully at this point so the locking mechanism is defeated, yet I still got stalled out. Luckily, both times after waiting the 10 seconds the car started right up and ran fine.
i just went thru all of this. My Z apparently had the fix done by the dealer once. It locked up on me about two weeks ago. I ordered the coh fix kit. the unlocker lead would not unlock the column lock. Take the Z to the dealer...bad actuator. Now it is on the road again...but I will still install the coh clb.
I was at my local dealer and I asked about the CLB and he said that he hasn't heard of any '04's having the problem. Anybody care to comment on that???
