You know sometimes "don't ask don't tell" is appropriate. In aprilcati's case i believe it was appropriate. They offered him half the value of the truck knowing it has a few issues and they would probably have to put some money into it. They will then turn around and flip it for a price that is much higher then it's worth. Dealers never sell at "book value". They are going to make money off of it...they are a business. Their mechanic should know all about it after 4 hours. He's not sticking it to anyone...

To the OP. I would go for a new engine or to take the car back. Don't settle for a used engine. You could end up with a lot more problems with more people then just the dealer if the shop installs incorrectly or the used engine is bad. Plus the mileage won't match up then when you try and sell the car everyone is going to wonder why there is a used motor is a 9400 mile vehicle.

Exactly... i would never deal like that with a private party either. They offered you half of what was worth...they knew what to expect.

I can tell already this is going to be a great thread.

And to the OP: if you keep this car, I don't care what is done to do it, you need your head examined. Return it for a full refund and run far and fast in the opposite direction.

Good luck,

Eddie

I would think the easiest way out is to go to the dealer with all your info and tell them the problem will go away if they put in an LS6 crate motor. 0 miles, at the installer of your choice.

Don't drive it. Keep it parked until it's settled in court. Do not offer to have another engine installed.

Walk away and start fresh.

In the case of this buyer, dealer should give him his money back.
If you're so secure with yourself and know you were 100% honest, then why are you posting about yourself on this guy's thread? If true, your story has nothing to do with anything I or anybody else posted. Also, for the future, try not to look like a fool by typing, "your an idiot." It's a bit ironic when your attemped insult fails third grade grammar.

I responded to what you said about people trading in crap to dealers, nothing more.

You should do a spell check on that last sentence before you criticize my grammar.

If you feel so secure with yourself, why do you have to use such hostile language? There are females on this site including my daughter. Just because we disagree on something doesn't mean this thread should turn into a pissing match.

Sorry to the original poster for hijacking your post.

My guess is the owner knew he was selling the car and put it in his Camero.

Rad_vet, this is easy. The dealer knew he was selling you an LS1, but portrayed it as a low mile LS6. This is fraud. You were taken.

Don't be nice. The dealer was trying to take you, and would've done so had it not been for your mechanic. Let your lawyer handle all the communication, and if the dealer won't be nice, then take 'em for all they got.

This dealer needs to go down. Think of what they're doing to others. It may be widespread and you've got the opportunity to get the car you REALLY want and stop the fraud.

Best of luck to you!

Update.

I signed a retainer with lawyer who is taking the case on contingency. He believes I have a very good case after reviewing the documents. We have named the last two owners in the suit. I have documentation that shows both of them tried to commit fraud to increase the value of the car and violated CA emissions laws. Also, both of the dealers are pointing at each other.

It is clear to me that these dealers think "As Is" covers them for any car they sell. Actually, "As Is" statements are worthless if you know something is wrong with a vehicle you are selling (and someone gets a hold of the documentation). Also, I found that the people who don't want to talk you, sometimes, tell you the most!

Good luck getting this resolved. It won't stop them from doing it again but at least the consumer would win one.

many ppl dont know the difference between an LS1 and LS6. Heck just go over to LS1tech and you will read and see, most ppl call all LSx motors LS1s.

It is not an investment, and if it drives great, is it really worth legal action?

The Legal action fees and time may wind up costing you more then buying and installing a new LS6 or LS2 Create motor.

These are the warranty claims on this vin.# there was nothing on engine trouble or repairs. Miles seem a little strange to me, 200 miles from 2004 to 2007 from San Diego to Scottsdale? Any GM dealer can print you this and a little more on your car.

BitViper, thanks for the Carfax.

RamMan, thanks for the dealer work check.

Courtesy Chevrolet recieved the car on trade-in August 2007. (My theory, with some info to back it up) Shortly after that they discovered the car had an 98 LS1, decided they could not sell it in CA, so they shipped it to AZ on a trailer to sell.

I don't think the guy who traded it in blew the motor; I see a number of z06s at the track that take the abuse just fine. I know of a couple people on this list that keep-up with or pass the Porsche GT3s in their z06s. I am sure he thought he was real clever when he swapped the motor.

The car seems powerful with the LS1. It may have a cam in it. It has dual valve springs (I removed the valve covers to check). I need to have it dyno tuned. The intake had a massive leak and the long term trim was maxed out. I fixed the leak but have not driven it to get the computer to re-adjust.
