Default Front plate/screen open air mod....pix

Ok just wrapped up the carbon fiber front plate screen mod and drilled 3 holes to feed cold air into the Venom air filter behind....took it for a ride and after 30 miles and back really feels like it pulls much harder for sure and the borlas sound louder. Much better throttle response as well. I was going to do 3 3" holes all across but there is a wire behind the left one just below, so I went with a slightly smaller hole on either side to avoid it. I also liked the look of the holes instead of the full rectangle cutout box behind the screen....just my opinion

...I want to thank the forum members that sent me pix on how to do this hole drilling and the advice! Also FLASUN (Pat) for the front plate job..great product my friend! Much thanks!! I love how the holes can be faintly seen thru the mesh...more aggressive and menacing look to it esp in the sun. Sorry for the pix as they are from my iphone(worst invention ever!!!! lol)

Nice! I did something a little bit different, but effective, just the same. I have to reserve the front plate area for my license plate - just in case i get caught......You can see the procedure, here:

http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/Rad...op%20inst..pdf

Note: Because there are lots of pictures in this procedure, it may take a minute or so to download.

thanks appreciate it...albeit a lil nerve wracking when drilling into your car...easy though and great sop feel coupled with the Venom air!

Nice, looks good. I have the same on my car except I cut most of the back out. I left enough in place to mount a license plate if I ever need to. It actually ends up looking like a Chevy symbol if you keep the mounting holes.

My car is Arctic White, so I also painted the back a flat black so you can't see behind the screen.

I'll have to look into getting a new air intake. The Venom is only for 2002+ right?

One of the last steps says to:
And almost last but not least is the depressurization mod. Simply cut off a 2-inch long section of the hood seal at the drivers end to allow any crowded-out warm air to escape.
Is that going to allow water to leak in? Doesn't seem like a real good idea.

Are there any advantages in just cutting a hole where the license plate goes, engine cooling??

I think there are a few more DIS advantages to it in my opinion...more dust in engine compartment..youd leave no room to return back to original plate cover as youd have to cut out the screw holes...I just like how there is this visual image gleaming behind the screen showing the holes there...again just my two cents!;-)

I believe its 01-04 for Venom...Stinger would be below 01...check Halltech for that..or Jim at Southern(forum vendor) to make sure

I went with a 6' hole in the center and two 4' on either side,I def can feel the difference, and the engine bay gets a little more dust from it.Love the look.

This mod was originally recommended by a guy who used to work for GM on the C5. He suggested that if you pressurize the engine bay with outside air, having an "escape route" encourages that forced-in air to flow up and out. Somewhat similar is a heat extraction hood.
However, I wouldn't recommend venting the hood area to anyone who frequently drives in the rain. Here in San Diego, it rarely rains from April until November, and even when I wash the car, there doesn't seem to be much water under the hood in the area of no seal.

I remember well, the weather in San Diego, moved from there in 76 to central Ohio and I still am not used to Ohio winters.

I think I will try the hole, full plate size, but somehow to be put back looking stock.

Maybe a James Bond flipping license plate for the front.

Nice job
I noticed that my car runs a little cooler also.
MidAmerica picked these up and now sells them.
I'm looking for more dealers for the Carbon Fiber line that I make.
