The main thing is you were not hurt. Cars can be replaced. Sorry about the damage and best of luck with the insurance company.

^I don't believe 98s had active handling. I think the first year for active handling was 99.

Glad you and your passenger are okay. That's the most important thing.

If you missed shifted I could see events playing out as you described, especially at that speed.

From your description sounds like they will total the car. Hope you get enough to buy another.

Might have it depending on mfg date.

1998
• Convertible becomes available
• Active Handling becomes available late in year
• The two slots of a 1998 (and possibly late 1997s) curve toward the rear at the bottom. (versus straight down

Shifting from 3rd to 2nd would only upset the car if you were ******* it and speed shifting to where you didn't catch the missed shift.

I doubt the car "magically" wrecked itself, but that really doesn't matter.... the insurance company owes regardless. You pay your deductible, your rate goes up a bit, and the car is either repaired or totalled. Not sure why some people assume insurance co's can deny a claim based on how you were driving. You could be drunk and racing and kill a bus full kids and you'd still be covered to the extent of your policy.

Sorry to hear about your accident but at least there were no human injuries. Hope it all works out with the insurance.

that's rough man im sorry to hear that. i too have a black vette. your story particularly stands out to me because the same thing happened to me except i was a lot luckier and the car didn't swing around all the way and the active handling saved me. same speed, same miss shift tho. it was just 2 months after i had gotten the vette and i remember the moment perfectly and thinking as the wall came closer and closer: "nooo...please no, not like this, not like this!!". i know what you mean tho, happened just like that, no warning. needless to say i have been a lot more careful since i was granted my second chance. but again im sorry your story ended worse but good thing your okay and who knows maybe you'll have another baby soon!
