Default fuel shut off

Has anyone had there C5 show steerig column servive and just have the fuel shut off when you let the clutch out. What does a GM dealer do to fix the problem and what has been the cost. My problem started when I changed the battery. The corvette steering is not locked and the recal has been done. I have read about the CLB device I just would like to know if anyone has had there corvette fixed by a dealer and what was replaced and at what cost. Thanks Rick

Rick

You have one of the most talked about problems with the C5

Read this first and then check back

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ky-please.html

The loss of battery probably caused the error message. The car now thinks the steering is locked and has shut off the fuel to stop you driving.

It all depends which version of the recall you have. The jury's out on 4006C but the earlier fixes didnt work. If the steering is not locked that's good. A CLB will fix it for $50 and is the only good solution to this problem.

The bypass might not even fix your problem, and even after you install it, there's a chance you'll still get that message (I've been getting it for well over a year now)

best of luck!

What about trying a new CLB? Maybe the one you installed is defective, or installed incorrectly like I did the first time.

When the recall was done to your car, GM added the fuel cut off as part of it should the computer think that the steering wheel is locked. The computer is programed to cut fuel to the engine if it thinks the steering wheel is locked and you exceed something like 2mph. I doubt the dealership will be allowed to reverse what was done for the recall as it is a safety issue according to GM. To check if it will go away, make sure your battery is fully charged (very important that the battery is fully charged). If this does not work, get a CLB, or have someone with HP tuners or EFI Live change the fuel cut off from 2mph to 256mph so you will be able to drive your car and never be stranded should the computer think that your steering wheel is locked in the future. Changing the fuel cut off will not get rid of the service column lock message, but it will allow you to drive your car.

But if you only used HP tuners as a fix, you'd still see the pull key wait 10 sec message for the entire time the vehicle is running, it just wouldn't cut off at 2 mph.

Default service column lock-fuel shutoff

Ive just signed on as a new member..we have a 2001 vette and have had the recall done a year ago........was driving fine until last week!!!!

wife tried pulling out of the garage and the fuel cut off ( after she had to pull key and wait 10 secs) now we get the service column lock again......but my steering isnt locked now???
Im almost afraid to drive it in case it does lock up but what can be done about the fuel cutoff....I did read about reprogramming to 256 mph........doubt chevy dealers will do that???
Has anyone gone back to dealer after the recall fix?? and what was done then???
Suxxxxxxx being stuck in the garage all summer.........HELP!!!!!

This is not necessary!! Please, just listen to what 8vette7 is telling you. This is a simple 45-60 minute installation that will cost you $50 max. Replacing the ignition cylinder (which will NOT fix your problem) will be a minimum of $700! Go back and re-read his post, print the instruction provided in the link, buy the CLB and be done with this problem.
