Ohhh, come on guys you know that all of you are secretly smiling because if, and I say if, you ever do get in a "street race" with someone on the highway. 90% of the time you can just wait till they top out drag limited and pass them. You have to love the power to weight ratio and the COD these cars have. In some ways the C5 > C6
After a few mods to my LS1 T/A, I was pulling C5's on the freeway. But I have to admit, I didn't have a chance until I modded the car. Trans Ams have horrible Drag Co and they're VERY heavy. (Mine was 3520 with 1/2 tank)
I don't know how fast I was going, but the needle was buried past 155... It was unsafe. I don't do things like that now because I know I'm not invincible and I don't want to become a statistic.
Many of the highways I drive around here are 75 posted, but everyone (99% anyway) drives 85-95 MPH, including police (in fact they usually cruise by at ~95-100 looking for reckless drivers, or excessive lane changers).
And regarding speed, I'm also a fan of legally accelerating to the speed limit / traffic flow as fast as I can (not peeling out) unless of course it's not appropriate or safe.

so with enough power to pull it there , what is the max speed 5th gear is capable of on a M6?
assuming stock diameter tires, stock gears, 5th gear in an MN6 transmission, 6000rpm is 186mph, but you can safely push it past 6K, fuel cutoff isn't until 6200ish from the factory and some of the roadracers are pushing 6900-7000 on stock engines.

You want to have big stones, try 155 in a 67 427/435 couple on a new arkansas freeway, of course I was 20, stupid and had bigger cohonies today not any chance of doing that, have friends that have taken their zo6s to 170+ on a 2.5 miles stretch of back road.
