Double din HeadUnits on C5
The owner didnt want to save the brackets.
They are Snap On tin Snips.
Dennis another question. The screws, washers you provided am I suppose to use them all or you just put extra. Is their a specific format of using the 2 different size washers. Also do I used the screws that came off the stock radio to support the Kenwood to the frame or I use the 2 chrome screws u provided.
Also do I need to use the housing that came with the Kenwood unit or attach the brackets directly to the unit
Update: The fastest and cheapest way to take of the bracket(s) (assuming you want to save them) is using a saw with a 10in metal blade ($8 for 2 blades) from sears. It took me less than 5min to take of the upper plate ofcourse it took me hours to find out that the 10in metal blade is the best thing to use

Thanks

The black/white connecter in the above picture will eventually gets plugged into the GMCRV2 connector. The other 2 white connector I will not use
Now for the confusion I have:
Everyone mentions the video bypass for the kenwood is to connect the light green parking wire on the Kenwood HU harness to the parking brake wire (I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THAT IS). So which one is the parking brake wire??????
Right now I connected the light green wire (parking sensor) on the kenwood harness to the black wire (ground) on the Kenwood harness and to the Black wire (ground wire) on the GMCRV2 harness. This DOESN NOT seem right because from all what I read I have to connect it to the Parking brake wire and 2 wires I connected too are ground wires
So this what I have
1. GMCRV2 harness
2. Kenwood HU harness
3. Stock radio harness thats in the car which is ahown in the image above.
So the light green wire (parking sensor) on the kenwood HU harness is connected to what wire and where is this wire located. Any pic will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

He did the console in my wife's vette... One of these days Dennis we may make it out your way....
I ran into a couple of obstacles but a phone call to Dennis solved the problems (Thanks Dennis). The unit is great love it.
A couple of things for corvette owners that need to do the install themselves and never did that before.
Well I need to get rid of the upper bracket that the Stock radio sits on. Well I tried drilling the rivets using 90deg adapter and titanium drill bits. Broke 3 and 4 hours later drilled only one. So I gave up on drilling. I wanted to save the bracket if need to go back stock. So I got a 10inch metal blade and slowly cut the rivets. It took me 10mins

Installed the mic above the mirror.

Installed the GPS antenna on the driverside dash corner

Installed the XM Antenna on the rear window, you have to remove the rear roof bow interior trim panel and the LH lock pillar trim panel where the seat belt is to run the antenna wire to the XM adapter/tuner that I placed behind the driver seat underneath the carpet

I used the GMCRV2. The only wire that drove me crazy is the light green parking wire on the Kenwood harness. I connected the wire with the Black wire on the kenwood harness and black wire on the GMCRV2. The ends of the black wires of the GMCRV2 with the metal rings I didnt connect them to anything (So far everything works fine). All other wires I connected as per the installation manual that came with the Kenwood.
The USB ran it to the Glovebox for now and still thinking what to do

Now installing the Kenwood unit with the Brackets supplied. I cut 1/2in from the longer side and 1/4in from the shorter side of the brackets. Screwed the brackets to the Kenwood unit and slide it in and marked for where the screw holes are. Drilled new holes on the bracket and used the screws that attached the stock radio

There is a gap at the corner of the passenger side and can be fixed I think (Still a theory) I will have to drill new holes 3/16in infront of the holes used to hold the unit on to the brackets. I think its the metal frame of the kenwood unit is pushing on the bezel.
Hope that helps beginners like me.....Also Dennis is a very good resource.

What boot screen for DNX 6160/6140 are you using.....
I read on one of the KEnwood threads how to change the boot screen but didnt work for me.
1. Download image and a file called convert to a USB drive.
2. Plug drive into HU
3. Press and hold at the same time FNC & Eject key
4. Press the reset key and let go
5. Click on OEM image
6. Change boot screen
I never get the OEM image....I get a test screen with different buttons none lets me change the boot screen.
Anyone out there who successfully changed the boot screen on a DNX 6140/6160 can tell me how did they do it
Thank you
I want to change that to another image
Update: OK to change the Start-up/Boot Screen on the Kenwood DNX 6160 you have to press hold the SRC+Eject buttons and press Reset key. Release the SRC+Eject buttons once you see the light turns on. You get 2 options. Kenwwood Image and OEM Image. Choose OEM Image and scroll to the USB and download the image you want then reset and walla you are done. Image need to be 480 X 240 pixels
To change the background you need to press hold the FNC+Eject buttons and press Reset key. Press Direct button go to and press the wrench key button at the top right corner of the screen. Choose Display --> choose Background --> USB --> Download image. Reset and are done

Actually if you use FNC+Eject and log in to the "Test Main Mode" screen. There is a button called "Development" and you will see different combination buttons what they do. Keep in mind this is for the DNX 6160 I have dunno if the other Kenwood DNX units are the same.
Glad this was helpful
I have the 5120 (bluetooth is an add on) and I just ordered the 6140 from Dennis. I like the Kenwoods so much, I'm moving the 5120 to my truck and putting the 6140 in the vette.
I like the 5120/6140 because I prefer a volume ****, which they both have.
The Garmin GPS in the Kenwood unit is excellent. It doesn't require a CD to work. You can download an updater from the Kenwwod website to a CD, as an annual gps system upgrade, but it doesn't stay in the unit. It cost about $50.00. The Dodge NAV update CD for my truck cost $199.00, and their NAV unit is nowhere near as good as the Kenwood.
I vote go Kenwood........ Go with Dennis........
Good Luck,

I have a Kenwood 5120 and am very happy with the performance of this system.

I will try to give it a run this afternoon - any other suggestions and tips and tricks, share them when you can - I am still learning and loving this unit

Thanks,Matt
