Solution for the corroded alternator.
I was tired of looking at all the corrosion on my alternator. I am not finished because I ran out of battery. Here is a brief view to what I am doing.
I used my dremel to do all the work
I used this wire brush. It is worn because I used it to clean my calipers before painting.
The old look with a little clean spot.
All new look
Here is a video of how I did it. I only worked on this for about 15 minutes. 30 if you count the pictures.
It is not perfect but I am much happier. Once the dremel recharges I will shine it up some more. I may spray it with clear coat too.

I've got to ask how much dust and other crud wound up inside the alternator?

Would it be beneficial for someone to hold a vacuum mozzle close by while doing this? I'm thinking all that metal dust inside an electrical device can't be a good thing.

Could use a small buffing wheel and compound......less loose metal that way

Anyone try Blingmaster on their alternator yet? Looks like it can do wonders for everything else.

dust didn't occur to me. Still works though. I think they are pretty hearty.

Looks like a good way to bring the alternator back to life in the looks department.

be sure to keep it out of the salt spray this winter, or it will look the same as when you started; otherwise brush on some POR 15.

This is the first thing on my TO DO list.
EDIT:
Well I just couldn't stand it. Went to Lowe's and picked up a brush for my drill and my Dremell along with some Scotchbrite pads. When I got home I hit the alternator with the pad and was AMAZED at the change. Spent about an hour hitting the alternator, bracket and throttle plate housing. I will post some pics tomorrow (thurs)

I do want to do this to some stuff on the car (rear crossmember, yokes in the wheel well) but I was wondering if it would remove some kind of anti-corrosive coating or something?
Couldnt wind up any worse after I clean it up (long after I mean, like next year)?
Anyone do this and have a few years on it?
