Default New Stereo Install

New to the site. I searched for another post on this topic, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.

I have a an 03 with the OEM stereo. I was looking on Crutchfield. When I put in my make model and year, all of the stereos listed said there are modifications to be made.

ie...cut the rear support to make room for the new stereo body, and removing the factory stereo will cause you to lose the 8" door speakers.

Has anyone encoutered this? Thank you.

Yes it's true, there are audio converters to keep your door speakers, but to me it was just as easy to convert them over, it was worth it to me

This can be done and we can help you. You have options depending on what you want and features you require. You will need a modified bezel for this. We offer these as well as all audio you would want. Custom install packages can be put together for you. As far as loosing the speakers. You can get an adapter like the Soundgate GMCRV2 peice we offer that will allow you to put in the new head unit and retain the rest of the factory system.

here is a few of my customer pics
got some more if you want to see something special

Sorry, I may have missed it but I don't have a clue if your stereo is single DIN or dual DIN. But I do know there is very little room behind the stereo when you mount it. If your using a separate amp, you may need a set of 90 degree RCA cable adapters. I had to use them on my stereo install otherwise the RCA cables hit the ducting behind the stereo. We do have an audio section, look under the forums tab at the top , look under General Corvette, then select audio/electronics. You can find more info there.

I posted a How To fit an AVIC N1 system in the attached sticky. Run down to post #18

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...with-pics.html

The N1 is obsolete now but this gives you an idea of the effort to DIY a flip out type system

Or you could pay the $$ and go with double DIN which looks awesome.

Best of luck with the choice.
