Along the same lines as the thread asking if you ever get asked if yours is a Z06, we come to my personal peeve.
Someone comes up in a parking lot and says, "Wow! Beautiful car! What year is it?"
"98"
"Oh...well it looks good for one that old."
Hell, you didn't have a clue how old it was until I told you. It could be a 2004 and you wouldn't know the damn difference. Why did it suddenly become.."Oh" after I told you it was a 98??? It still looks a damn sight better than your 2009 POS Toyota minivan!
I got the same thing, then the girl said, "Oh I like the new ones better". I was so f'ing pissed. 10 seconds ago you thought I was driving my new 2008-2009 60,000-70,000 dollar car... Now you like the new ones better? You don't even know what your talking about.... GAH!
However my actually response was, "Yeah the new ones are nice, but I like my body style better."
I just got that one yesterday.. thinking it was a 2007-2008 i said 2000 they said OOOOO well it looks nice for being that old... i wanted to roundhouse kick him in the face like chuck norris
I had many hot rods over the years and people are always asking that question, "What year is it?". I respond by saying, "What year is it? What are you Rip Van Winkle or something, it's 2009!"
Get over it. If you have a 97 - 2004 vette & people still think it might be brand new and just rolled off the assembly line, can that be all that bad? Come on!!
Why get pissed when someone says it 'looks good for being that old'? In a certain sense its a compliment to the car for holding well in comparison to other 13 year old cars and it may compliment your maintenance/car care routine.
I constantly get people thinking it's a new car (non "car people" that don't know about the C6 that is) and I love their reaction when I tell them it's a 98! Their eyes usually pop out of their heads. Then when I tell them it's got 105,000 miles on it I get another amazed reaction. (and then I get a third jaw drop when I tell them I drive it in the winter too!)
I honestly think it's a better feeling when people ask what year my car is and I tell them it's a 98 than it would be if I had a new one and they asked me that same question. With a brand new car people expect it to look perfect, but they don't usually expect an 11 year old car to look like this.

Thats what I figured, I dont get my panties knodded up when people say that!
