Default Help needed on possible purchase

About to purchase a 98 C5 but it had push button start that worked when the key was in ignition and switch turned on (car did not start unless key was in switch in on postion) the button was concealed in ashtray area beneath climate controls. The seller assured me it was part of a security system and he never had a problem with it. How apprehesive should I be.

If it was professionally installed it shouldn't be a problem but if Bubba installed it I'd be a little wary of it.

My question is why would you do that unless you have a lot of other custom work on the car.

If the wiring is done correctly there is nothing to worry about, I had something very similar on a F-body of mine.

I would ask a lot of questions about who did the wiring and try to verify it if you are worried.
