I have an 04Z. Have been reading about "column lock" problems and thought how lucky I am to not have a problem. Don't ja' know that yesterday my DIC said to "check column lock". Darn!!
My question to those that have had the problem: Did your DIC's tell you to check it or did they just act up? Maybe I'm lucky 'cuz I have received a warning!!
I have an appointment with my mechanic to correct a problem that may be coming. Better safe then sorry. Do y'all still recommend "Corvette of Houston" for the 'fix'??
2002 Z06 - GM "fixed" mine three times, but about a month ago it still went to full system lock without warning. Save your heartache, just install the bypass and be done with it....

I just installed two CLB from Houston Vette this weekend. One in my 02Z and one in my buddies 02Z. Easy enough to do and should only take an hour or so of your time. I did mine first by the instructions I found online. One enhancement I would make to the instructions would be to go ahead and take out the center console. It is only a few more bolts and makes it much easier putting the lower console back together correctly. I found it impossible to get the air temp sensor back in its correct orientation by only taking the knee bolster out. My way, I know the dash it back correctly.

Hey Tom, put the column lock bypass from corvettes of houston and don't look back. Even if you have the problem or not. Bypass it and be done with it. I am local if you need a hand but it is very straightforward. By the way i haven't seen your Z16 up at weichert realtors in awhile. I recently picked up an 02Z myself.
If you remove the CLB, as in reverse it, how can you get it back in if you dont have the 12volt harness from the cigar lighter to the cars wiring like when its very first installed? Which wire in the harness needs the 12volts applied to it?
Have you had the recall "fixed" at the dealership?
Yes my car does have the recalls from the dealership. I was 150 miles away from home and the steering column lock happened. I noticed if you shake the steering wheel while the key is inserted it never worked.
