i was thinking about going, and looking at this Z06, but something just doesn't click right with me, for one fact i think it is really priced low... at $14,995 for a 2002 Z06, it looks legit enough, but the black engine covers look a little suspect... can anyone else tell me if this is a real one, or a fake... like i said i want to go check it out, but its a few hour drive for me, and want to know if its worth the time
The only FRC's made 01+ are Z06's so yes it real, but it looks like the owner took the covers off and sold them and just found some older C5 covers for it. If it was maintained good the mileage shouldnt be issue.

Thats not true 99 the FRC was available in standard C5 config
Check the date code on the tires and check the tread on the inside edge of the tire (which is difficult). If the tires need replaced there's another $1k.

If you right click the pictures it gives you the dealership website. VIN: 1G1YY125125102860
For some reason this VIN does not check out with the manheim decoder, should be a typo but I would double check it via carfax, etc.
What a low price for such an amazing performance car as long as this is not some chop shop rebuild nitrous fed stripper's car of course. It is great to see a driver C5Z06! No reason that car could not run another 100,000+ miles with minimal cost for consumables. Wish it was closer to me, pictures can hide plenty but it looks to be in pretty good shape with good body lines compared to others with high miles.
If you change the 8th digit from a 5 to an S it comes up as a Z06 but has had a lot of electrical parts replaced as well as a whole rear diff according to GM vis.

I looked at on 02 Z when I was first getting into the market. I came across this black Z that was a little rough but the price was right. It was a local trade in at a Mazda dealer. I drove the car and it ran great. I told the dealer I wanted my buddy to help me come check it out closer. He had his 02 Z at the time and knew plenty about them. Good thing I took him with me to check this one out. Someone had put a stock C5 intake on the car, not the stock Z intake. There were headers on the car, but stock C5 mufflers, not the Z mufflers. There were stock C5 seats in the car, not the Z seats. The heads up had fallen down and would not respond to any adjustments up or down. In my initial drive of the car, I had noticed only the heads up was out of kilter. The rest, me being a newbie, I missed.
The price was right on the car, but after we explained everything that was wrong with the car, the salesman new they had been hooked on their trade in and was now passing it along. They tried to get me to come back several times and offering the car at a great discount to me.
It just so happened across the street at a Hyundai dealer there was an 02 EB Z with 12k miles and it was untouched. I test drove that car and took it to the Mazda dealer and showed them what was wrong with their car. I wound up buying the EB Z and have loved it ever since.
Be careful and look closely. Have someone knowledgeable when you go looking for your vette. Especially if it seems to good to be true.
