Windshield Question

The insurance is covering it, and there will be someone coming out to look at it today and replace it tomorrow or Wednesday, but with it having the HUD, do I need to mention that to the glass people? Is there a certain kind of windshield (coated of something like that) that needs to be used for the HUD?

It requires new weather strip, and a new side retainer strip on each side. The retainer strips have a self adhesive tape that must have all traces of adhesive completely removed and a special new tape applied, or replace with new part. The new part is like $11. each. Not replacing it or not cleaning it properly and applying new TAPE (not adhesive) will cause water leaks. Not replacing the weather strip will cause water leaks and damage to the windshield structure.
They must use the GM kit, it contains special paint to be applied to the track where the weatherstrip is remove and in the windshield track that covers any scratch or mark to prevent rust.
The shaded HUD windshield number is located on the lower right side (passenger side). You need to ensure they order that part.
The windshield installation if done properly does not use adhesive to secure the weatherstrip in, a new piece comes with specific points where it is peel n stick along with a half dozen screws and the new side retainers to hold it in place and watertight.
Use of sealant on the weatherstrip indicates someone doesn't know what they are doing.
I would pre-inspect the new windshield, after it has been cleaned as I've been through 5 all had one or more defects shipped directly from Chevrolet to the major installers (like Safelite). Look for warpage (you can feel it with your hand wiping across the glass like when it is being cleaned) and cracks and deep scratches. All BEFORE they start cutting and removing your windshield.

Depending on which year model depends on which rear view mirror. The newer dimming models comes off by grabbing both ends and slight rocking while lifting. There are many cautions about removing that rear view mirror as well as installing it. They should ensure it literally snaps into position.
Remind them to put a cloth in the HUD opening so as not to drop glass and junk in there.
Those triangle side pieces do not come off. I had one installer who wanted to pry them off, they are part of the whole assembly that comes off as one piece by removing the screws.
Good luck.
