Default engine possibility

alright well i believe this would be the right place to post this, i'm still new and all.. okay well i have this ls1 in my vette that has quite a bit of miles, it knocks during cold start up, and it just feels like it's lagging behind.. so last night i was laying in bed looking at engine prices.. when i came across the 4.8l LR4 motor.. i know it has small cubes but this is what i was thinking.. these motors are dirt cheap, cheaper than the 5.3l but with the same reliability as any Iron Block LS.. so why not buy a 4.8l out of junkyard.. help the motor find glory and put a procharger on it.. i could shoot well over ls6 z06 numbers and the price wouldn't be too bad either.. just food for thought? so what are y'alls thoughts?

I really know nothing on the subject but won't you need all new electronics along with tons of other things? Different engine blocks are not plug and play. I'm just trying to say there are a lot of costs you may have overlooked at first.

That install would cost you a fortune changing everything over--really bad idea!

why not just take out your tired 'ol LS1 and bump it to a 383 (or 402) forged crank setup?

I would not put a 4.8L in there.

Personally I'd stick with something that will be fully compatible with your electronics already on the car.
