sad to say that Hess is the survivor here. it's always the innocent bystander that suffers or loses. from the sound of his charges and record, it seems he had very little to offer society. very, very sad...seen it too many times.
Prayers for the victims and a 'toss the book at him' for the stupid Corvette driver...then take a lesson from all this..
WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT/HARNESS IN ALL VEHICLES AT ALL TIMES IN MOTION! Notice that > the dead man and severely injured woman were not wearing belts....and that > Everyone, even the senseless perpetrator of the accident, who was properly wearing a belt was in FAR better condition.
Stupid and sad event, that should never had happened, and made worse with the STRONG likelihood that if all the minivan occupants were properly belted, the outcome would barely have made the news.

Very true, however Hess and his lady friend were wearing seatbelts and walked away with scratches. The two people who died were thrown in and out of their vehicle. A horrible tragedy, however I wonder if they would have survived if they had been wearing their seatbelts.
Fran from RPM in Claymont De remarked about this in the Northeast section. I think he said he had just flashed his vette last week and that Hess has a 9 sec. camaro. Sad for the victims.
I totally agree about wearing seatbelts, even in a parking lot. I once saw a SUV flipped on its roof in a parking lot and both cars weren't going very fast. Someone ran a stop sign and poof. That's how quick things can happen.
I guess I'm the weird one about seat belts here. I think it should be driver/passenger choice. Though I almost always wear a seat belt, one of the rare times I wasn't it,it saved my life. I was thrown from the car,the gas tank(located right behind where I was sitting in this car blew up on final impact. Even the police said if I belted in,I'd be dead right now. On the flip side,I've also been trapped in a burning vehicle after an accident due to a malfunctioning seat belt. Had to cut it to get out...
Hi There:
I hope that idiot Hess is a old man when he get out of jail.I feel sorry for Mr. Long's family. He lived about 20 miles east of me,although I didn't know him he was the same age as me. The article was front page news in our paper.

You have been trapped inside a burning vehicle and then on a separate occassion have been thrown from a vehicle? Damn!
I always ware a seat belt because this kind of thing does happen. I would hate to be Hess and have to live with what I did. That would suck.
I could not image living with that kind of remorse or guilt hanging over me. My friend's neighbor accidently hit a neighborhood kid on a Big Wheel who darted out of his driveway in front of his truck. There were parked cars on the street and even though this guy was driving less than 10 MPH and slammed on his brakes the moment he saw the child, the impact was enough to kill the little boy. He wasn't charged with any crime and although everyone accepted the incident as a tragic accident, he still thinks about it every day.
it was a very bad accident that could have been prevented. I talked to a few troopers on the scene. It was a sad scene, they called me because they know I have a vette.
If it was a year ago I might have handled this accident. I think we had reports of that vette driving agress. south on RT1.
Pray for the family.
