I just picked up 2004 black z06 one month ago, and I was coming down the street this evening and the neighbors dog runs underneath the Vette.Of course the owner was right there and the dogs dead. What do I do ??? Card ?? Offer to help pay for new dog ??? I suddenly dont like my car right now........ Any thoughts would be appreciated.

First thing, take a DEEP breath. Just by feeling as awful as you do right now says a lot about your character, while this is a real bad situation it could have been worse. It could have been a kid....or you may have swerved to miss it and been in an accident where another driver was killed.
Okay, take another deep breath.
As long as you were not doing anything outlandish such as excessive speed or anything like that it really is not your fault. I'd tell the owner that you are all tore up about the situation and that it is obviously has had an emotional toll on you.

You weren't flyin down the road or anything right? If not, you can't blame yourself. It was just an accident. I did the same thing years ago with my '95 T/A. I felt like crap for awhile. You'll get over it with time.
Terrible thing to happen but as the others aid it's really not your fault unless you were speeding.
My brother witnessed his roomates dog get hit and the driver left, the dog ran away but they found him and he wasn't seriously injured. My brother also witnessed a neighbor's dog get hit and died and the owner of the black mecedes went after the dog owner for damages to the car...
GF witnessed there neighbors dog get hit and die and the driver sped off...
As a dog owner, if my pet was off the leash and ran under a car then its my problem. You really can't blame yourself. I'd even go as far as to say that any damage to the car is the pet owners fault as well.
Now thats the hard line but I know how you feel and I'd be just as gutted as you are
As long as you were driving responsibly (not perfectly, just reponsibly) not your fault guy.
A caed woulndt be out of line, at least they would know how you feel rather than maing thier own assumptions.
" Very sorry about your loss . . .If there was anything I could have done to avoid the accident I would have done so . . .Although it did not involve a member of my family, and as such I can only imagine how you may feel, I would like you to know that the incident has effected me greatly and I do share your grief. . . ."

It's an accident. You can't change things and I hope your neighbors understand. Your post clearly says your sorry. But Keep in contact with your neighbor, after awhile, and some deep discussion, maybe you can suggest about getting another dog, if so, then maybe you will want to pitch in on the purchase of a 'New' dog. But it was an accident, if you could have stopped in time you would have. Hopefully your neighbors understand that.
I am a dog lover(two Boxers,a looney Basset and a Bernese Mountain Dog) and I do feel your pain, however my dogs are NEVER left uncontrolled or off leash. It is my responsibilty for their safe keeping, not some random stranger driving their car on a public road.Dont beat yourself up to badly over an accident that was not your fault.Though it may sound harsh, the owner of that mercedes was entitled to damages from hitting that dog, what if it had been a horse?
Talked with owner last night. Where Good. I was going about 5mph when it happened. Thanks for all your thoughts and Ideas.

Man unless you rolled over the dog with a wheel I'm surprised its dead! What kind of dog are we talking about here. I've rolled a few dogs under other vehicles and watched in the rear view mirror as they got up and ran away. Maybe because the vette is so low it does more damage.
I would be wanting the guy's insurance information for damage to the vette and forget the dog. Killed at 5mph? If it couldn't survive a 5mph bump it was on its way out anyway. Healthy dogs are tougher than that.
