Default A hole in muffler?

Ok I was recently checking out a Z06 TI exhaust in F/S.. and apparently it has a 1/8" hole on the side of the muffler.

Would exhaust gas leak or have some sort of a functional problem?

Or would it sound weird since muffler is the "silencer"

Any help is appreciated.

Are you talking about the drain hole at the bottom part of the side.

It's to let the condensed water drain out. It's supposed to be there.

No. I asked the seller if there's any damage to the mufflers or the tip. And he said there's a hole 1/8 inch on the side of 1 muffler. I don't think he's talking about factory holes.

If so, he wouldn't have to tell me as that's how it's supposed to be.

All I want to know is whether it affects the functionality... No one is going to crawl under my car and look "hey there's a little hole there"

If it has a non factory hole in it I would pass , There are a ton of TI exhaust out there unless he is giving them away, Last thing I want to do is install something that isn't right. There is a chance the whole can get bigger over time and then toy would be bummed when your car starts to backfire.
Maybe that is just me...

You could be right.

I never understood how a TI had a hole in it in the first place. As far as I understand, TI's are very strong and durable. You're not supposed to have to replace the system for the vehicle's entire life.

He's giving a decent price.. I just don't want to be stuck with something I have to replace later.

All mufflers will build condensate,,especially if there are a lot of short trips. As far as I know,,just about all mufflers have a "weep hole"to let it drain,,or else every time you got on it it would look like a Stanly Steamer taking off!! Does it look like it belongs there?? Even my full stainless Corsas have one!!

I don't have a picture of the hole, so I'm not sure.

So in reality, even if there is an extra 1/8 inch hole, it will just be another outlet for draining.. It really shouldn't affect its performance or sound, correct?

Right. The hole will look like it was put there on purpose.

All the ones I've seen are at the bottom at the lowest point tight at the point of the end cap/body seam or junction. It should look like when the muffler is installed the hole would be at a low point where the moisture can drip out. The holes are so small it makes no noticeable sound! Hope this helps!!

I dont know about your state, but in PA, a car will fail inspection if there is any holes anywhere in the exhaust that are not supposed to be there.

He will be fine here, and I agree it should not pose an issue. I have yet to see your car

If that's where the hole is, it is supposed to be there - and will not affect the performance of the muffler at all.

You guys may be right, but I think he said "on the side of one muffler" or something like that.

Anyhow, the reason I asked this question is because sometimes I hear VERY loud exhaust coming in from some 1980's honda, and obviously there's some holes in the exhaust...

So small holes don't matter, while bigger ones do? I don't understand the sound part of exhaust systems

You can see it in my profile or just look under the threads I started.. you'll find the one about my trip to Florida.

Hey, we should go cruise together on a weekend or something. I know you're in Rochester. I'm on the west side of Springfield, like 5 minutes away from White oaks Mall.
