Guys, I have a question. Today on my way home from work, the passenger window would not go down, and the passenger door lock would not unlock...then shortly after I tried those two things, my guages went inop, as did the AC and radio, and driver's door. The DIC showed limited power, and kept telling me ASR was inop, shocks were inop...basically everything stopped working, but I was still able to drive the car. When I got home, I undid the batter for 10 min, and hooked it up...everything is fine now....what do yall think happend? This is a '99 with 29,000 miles. Thanks
Did you check the battery and have it tested? I always start with the simpliest things first. Could be a number of other electrical gremlins if it is not the battery. Good luck.
Also, read the sticky in the tech section about electrical problems, lots of good info posted there.
Actually, last week, it had a "service steering column lock" on the DIC, and the local dealership diagnosed it to the battery, and installed a new battery.
Bad batteries have been known to leak on the computer and cause similar problems,
Also could be a bad ground
Peace
Chip
Remove the battery and look for damage from acid leaking. If there is some remove the tray and see if there is more. There is also a panel in the inner fender behind the wheel that can be removed to check for more damage to the electronics. Hopefully, as people have said it's the battery or a ground.
Did you get a boat load of codes and all the light on the dash like a christmas tree. Pull the rubber boots loose in the door jambs and look at the wiring harness where the door wiring plugs into the dash wiring. Be sure the clear wraped wire is not shorting to ground. GM did a great job with the insulation on the wiring there. T

YUP! Also may want to use a small pick and bend the tabs on the female terminals, they tend to lose tension over time.
Probably the battery terminals were not tight enough. I have a 99 as well and bought a new battery and had some crazy things go on for 3 months before I traced it to the battery not being torqued enough. Sometimes it's just the simple things.
