Default loud squeak/cracking sound from targa

Recently, my targa top has been making some annoying cracking/squeaking sounds when I drive. I'm wondering if there's something loose i can tighten to make it stop.

try some white lithium grease in the latch. Mine started making noise once and that corrected it.

same here - white lith solved the problem - put plenty in the hole where the locating pin rides.

Spray your weatherstripping liberally with silicone lube....and do it everytime you clean your car.....this will remove 90% of targa based noises....

goodluck,

Mine is in a spray can with a wand like WD40. I got it years ago, I can't recall where. I'm sure any auto parts store carries it.

Using the wand, spray the moving parts in the catch. Also spray some into the palm of your hand and smear it on the latch on the targa.

Are you sure that the noise it is not coming from the roof bow center panel? That it the plastic interior panel that is located just behind the targa top. Mine is making a squeaking noise and I can recreate the same noise by pulling down and wiggling the panel. I was thinking about removing it and trying to find where the noise is coming from. It sounds like the panel is rubbing against something.

I'm certain it's the targa. If i put my hand on the center of the plastic piece on the front, i can feel the creaking with my hands (perfectly in sync with the sound)

Just a word about the grease. The manufacturer recommends silicone based non solvent grease. So technicaly, no spray (the stuff that evaporates from a spray is a solvent), no lithium, just use common di-electric grease. Comes in a small tube $2 at any hardware store.

Apply it to all of the weatherstripping on the car, let it sit a minute and buff it lightly (just so you dont leave a ton on there). A little goes a long way and it does quite down the targa.

Found my problem. The mounting pin, or whatever its called, on the rear passenger side of the targa top was pushed in below the hole in the roof bow center panel. Loosened it and and put it through the hole and the squeak disappeared.
