Overtaking Camera

I've had the odd fist waved at a non existent driver in the passenger seat
This video will give you some idea of the problem. Imagine sitting behind a car and needing to see if the road is safe to overtake.

I've planned to fit an overtaking camera to the passenger side for some time just to give me that first look at traffic. Where its mounted would depend on the size of the lens and there are a few options. The camera feeds onto my AVIC flip out screen for viewing.
My son tried a fit yesterday on his Camaro using a reversing camera. It went OK and he tucked it into the headliner temporarily. The trouble is that its a reverse image which is confusing and the camera is a short range focus and wide ange for reversing. The definition at longer range is just not there. We need a camera optimised for "action" shots focussed at infinity.
I know some of you have mounted cameras for the track. Does anyone have any experience with the different types of camera, preferably the small pinhole type? Any suggestions would be great.
I like to set a challenge

Problem solved.

Seems like the reversing camera with the small lens setup would be ideal it you can solve the focal point issue.
I've never seen one in action so never knew about the image being reversed though.

Mounting it in the shell of the passenger side outside mirror would be ideal but might be more modification that you want to do.

I will PM you a list of cameras that I have used in flight simulators.

Your Company works you way too hard

Thanks for the info

DBS99MagRedCoupe: Camera's in flight simulators???? I worked directly in flight simulation and don't remember any camera's on the simulators themselves. Maybe the source of the newer simulator video? I work in space simulation now and can only dream and wish I could get a ride in the shuttle with a camera.

We used to have a camera system on the old F4 simulator. It ran over a model that represented the countryside around the base. I think we can safely say simulations come on a long way

I think I would have a tough time driving on the left side of the road - did it a few times when I was stationed in the Bahamas, but it was definitely a challenge.
