Default update

Just an update the shop is painting all the areas required to match the outside tonight and I will decide if it is satisfactory when complete. Stay tuned.
I am really trying to work with them as they did take the parts off the car when they painted it and I think they really care but just made a mistake.Just wish they would have been more up front when they saw it
rather than wait for me to point it out.

If they truly did take all parts off for painting then it would actually be easier to paint the jambs and the parts at the same time, the same color, with no masking. I am an auto body tech and the reason you paint parts off the car is for jambing and less masking purposes.

I personally have not seen the two colors side by side but I have no idea why the painter wouldn't spray out a test panel or take a color chip and hold it up to the existing finish to verify a color match.

What is done, is done. If they do a nice fix and you are happy with it i guess it all works out. But if you are even the smallest bit unsatisfied don't let them get away with it. Mistakes come with penalties. Don't settle for a second rate job.

Keep us updated, with pics please.

Do not let them paint the jams with out taking the doors, quarters and fenders off. Have them paint all the jams and the top for free.

After having just done this, just the doors need to be removed. Someone else mentioned something about the inside of the hatch. I don't have a hatch but you might want to make sure it's not body color in there/

They should have said 'Which color do you want? WE are going to have to start over and want to give YOU the option of which color to go with'.

Would you really want to look at your car every day knowing it's not right?

If you dont like the Mag Red II (and dont forget there are a lot of areas it will show as a different color (the hatch and under the front hood and fuel door to name a few) they have to paint it over again at their expense, and should throw in the top just for making you wait for so long.
Go up the chain of command untill you get what you want and dont accept anything less and stick up for your rights they were paid to do a job and they are obligated to complete the job to your satisfaction.

I agree with this, especially the part about being calm. If you start shouting and acting like a raving lunatic, then they will quickly lose interest in helping you find an equitable solution. Most people are willing to work with you to solve a problem, so stay calm, cool and respectful.

Honestly sounds like an honest mistake. Mag Red vs Mag Red II. Stupid of course but "honest". I can't believe the shop did not paint a scrap piece laying around the body shop and let you look at it first. I agree with the guy above. They should have checked it first but they must look similar? I feel for you. I have spent 10 months of my life with another car in the body shop three different times for paint. I know the pain. Good luck!

No way should you have to pay extra when it was their error. Be patient , which is tough, and do not drive the car off till it is exactly as you expect it ,small claims court does work if they are at fault like this
