Default You will never believe this...........

My car has been in the body shop for almost a month now due to a run in with debris from a rock truck. The whole car was repainted and they were just waiting on the windshield today. I went to go look at it and they painted it the WRONG color. It is a 1999 with Mag Red I and they painted it Mag Red II. I opened the door and you might as well have painted the car any color as it was not even close. They said they will have to jam in the paint now. They originally were also charging me to paint the top to match as it was not on the car when the damage occurred. If I hadn't agreed to do that it would have really been a patchwork.Do you think I should accept it or does anyone have any suggestions? Do you think I should now have to pay for the top as it would have been an issue at completion anyway.

It seems that the bodyshop has 2 options... paint the roof for free or repaint the entire car Mag Red 1. That's a no-brainer.

Do you prefer Mag Red 2?

I wouldn't accept the car, that was painted the wrong color but if they have to also paint the top you are going to have to pay to get your top painted.

I don't understand why they would also have to paint the top, If the shop is any good they can match the car to the top and then you shouldn't have to paint the top.

My car is Mag Red II. When I bought it, it only came with the transparent top. I bought a top on ebay and had it painted to match the car. The shop did an excellent job you can't tell.

Have you ever heard of the Better Business Bureau? I had some body work done to my camaro years ago (a lady sideswiped me)...when I went to pick up the car, the nose was sagging, the alignment was so bad you couldn't hardly even drive it and they forgot to put a few screws back into the rear bumper panel and it was resting on the exhaust tips (can you say fire hazard!! ).
They initially didn't want to fix what I pointed out until I told them I was going to report them to the BBB and file a claim against them for depriciated value of the car due to the sh!!ty work they done. I called my insurance man while I was talking to the manager of the body shop and needless to say, my car was fixed immediatley and no additional money was needed to make it right. The ball is in your court now! Hell, I would even go as far as to say that they should have to repaint the entire car again, free of charge because they don't know the difference between mag I and II...just my .02cents.

Man I hate body shops sometimes!!

Good Luck!!

I would be livid.... Do you prefer the Mag II? If so- you could allow them to finish painting door jams, top and under hood to finish the job-at no charge of course- provided they threw in an apoplgy and a 6 pack.

I did take a body shop to small claims for sheety work before. A fox body mustang that was off so bad- when he closed the hood to give me the car- it shattered the headlights!! Paint was already peeling. Judge ripped him a new one- and awarded me my FULL amount paid back- PLUS cost of repairs to correct. Case was it Deer Park TX. So you DO have options

I deal with things like this all the time, its easy be calm dont raise your voice or get mad, you need to decide what you want and stick to it dont accept anything less, if you like the Mag Red II then tell them since they painted the car the wrong color its thier obligation and just decent customer service to make sure the whole car is the same color.
If you dont like the Mag Red II (and dont forget there are a lot of areas it will show as a different color (the hatch and under the front hood and fuel door to name a few) they have to paint it over again at their expense, and should throw in the top just for making you wait for so long.
Go up the chain of command untill you get what you want and dont accept anything less and stick up for your rights they were paid to do a job and they are obligated to complete the job to your satisfaction.

It's "their" fault, not yours, it's up to them to make it right.

Unless I really liked the other color it would have to match the RPO sticker for me to be satisified!
