When using the fishing line make sure you are pulling away from the car and you should have no issues, I had my son help me, Once I got started he pulled the BSM just a bit away from the car and it went really fast. Make sure you do one of the small spears first just in case you run into color change probs. That way you can stop and put the spear back on if needed. It took me about an hour and a half to 2 hours to finish mine. I also used a heat gun I bought at Home Depot, It really helped to soften up the tape.

I bought a heat gun and it worked pretty good. You may need more heat than what you are applying.

Once you get one off & look at the back of the bsm, you'll see that the adhesive is thick/thin throughout.

I used thick gloves to save my fingers, kept the hair dryer going & slowly used the sawing motion. It should get easier as you go toward the rear of the car. It's a "patience type job", good luck.

just be careful when sawing. I ended up cutting into the bsm a bit on one side. I wore gloves and used a long piece of fishing line. you can always use a wood dowel or a plastic scraper to put some space between the bsm and the car after you've cut a bit of the double sided tape-might make cutting a bit easier. like the rest have said, heat really helps!!
good luck

I cut a couple of short wooden dowels..... broom stick handles. I made sure they fit inside my closed fist (ie not sticking out the ends of my hands.) Then I drilled a small hole through each one. I took the fishing line, threaded it through the hole, then wound the line around the dowel until I had several feet of it wrapped around it. I did the same with the other end of the fishing line through the other dowel. It made it alot easier to work the line behind the BSM. It also only allowed my knuckles or the back of my hand to rub the door paint.

Hmmm! I must have removed mine the wrong way! I didn't use any fishing line at all. I just got an end up and once I had it started . . .
I just grabbed on and pulled it off. That wasn't a big deal! Removing the adhesive tape half inch at a time, by rolling it off with my thumb. That took a little time. I liked the look much better when they where off. I then sold them on ebay for $150. The buyer was a happy camper and so was I!

Seriously, using a pair of gloves to protect your hands sit down with a hair dryer and start at the aft end of the door. Moving the dryer back and forth over a six to eight inch area warm it up (and not too close or too hot you don't want to over heat the paint ... you can tell by touch when its getting warmed up). Now feed the fishing line into the end and start a sawing pulling motion towards the front of the door. You want to have a fairly close grasp say about a foot on each side of line, so that may mean your working with a three foot piece of line. You should feel it cutting into the tape on the back side. If you have some goo gone you can squirt some of that along the top of the BSM to allow it to soak into the tape. The tape is maybe an 1/8 inch thick. So you cut a little say about six inches, stop and heat up another 8 inches, cut some more. You can back the string up and leave it hang while you heat up the next segment. Most likely you will break the string a few times and have to thread in a new piece. Just thread it back from the beginning where you've already cut in a light sawing motion and it will come right back to where you left off. Start heating again and cut some more until you get to the end. Since the tape is being sliced when you get done the BSM will probably be still stuck there, no problem gently peel it away.

DON'T OVER HEAT IT.

DON'T GET FRUSTRATED AND START PULLING ON IT.

DON'T PRY WITH ANYTHING.

BE CAREFUL OF WARM PAINT.

Warmed paint can be damaged so be careful. This process will take you an hour or two there is no race to be won. Don't take these short cuts, or you might damage the paint.

Now, you get the first one off, I usually recommend someone start with the short piece on the gill to get the hang of it first. Then using the hair dryer start heating up the remaining tape. Using your gloved finger and be real careful gently roll the remaining tape off. That will leave a slight residue. Use your goo gone or I preferred to use a can of 3M Adhesive Cleaner (spray from most auto parts stores) to remove the residue and any left over piece of tape that didn't easily roll off.

You may still have a slight mark after it is done along the edges. Using a paint cleaner like Zaino ZPC or perhaps 3M Perfect-It II (also from auto parts store) applying on a cold finish by hand or preferred by polishing buffer like a Porter-Cable Dual Action Random Orbital Buffer (aka PC DA).

This takes time and patience. If not you run the risk of damaging the paint finish. It's an easy procedure just tedious.

You can do this.

ok thanks again for all the help!! so i removed the two larger pieces and i hate to say this but i just started tugging lightly on it and the piece came right up. the fishing line was not doing anything. so i now i have to remove the smaller pieces. as far as the left over tape i simply squirted goo gone and bug/tar remover and pushed it off with my finger. the left over outline residue is my next job. and then the smaller pieces. they are really stuck on there.

thanks everyone!!

Excellent just take your time and be careful. Get some 3M Perfect It and that will remove that final residue.
