Hello C5-Z06 Owners,
I owned my Z06 for only 6 months and I'm already sick at what damage I've done to the rear right bumper and panel (this car is so cool too, best car I've ever owned). I over throttled, spun a 180 into a bank. For starters I was looking for a rear bumper. I think I can remove the right muffler and have it re-welded/bent back in line. I also bent the rear right aluminum bumper frame in about 1 inch which pushes in the fender. Anyway if anyone has any thoughts on this subject, bring them on,.
Thanks...Vince
PS: I hope to have pictures soon.
I don't have any thoughts except....be careful. These cars can easily get away from you. When they break loose, you have to ease off the throttle....unlike my old 5.0 Stang that was easy to throttle steer. When the Z breaks the rears loose...it can get ugly quickly.
Hope this helps, give these guys a call www.corvetterecycling.com
801-447-4700. Let them know what you need and they will ship it to you. Good Service and good prices . Let them know the color. They sometimes have the bumper covers in the correct color.
Thanks Bill! This is an interesting site. Also, "tlove32" this is so true, this is the second time it let go on me. I was warned to make sure it’s straight and flat before tromping it in first, second and sometimes third. Problem is I can't keep my foot out of it. So I've decided to do auto cross once I get it back on the road in hopes to get some of this need for speed out of my system in a safer environment. Looking forward to the future in my Z06...thanks...Vince

Yes that is the safest place to learn the car at slower speeds. It's best to ease in to the throttle at the apex of the corner than mash it.

Keep in mind the mufflers (if stock) are made of titanium... if welding is
needed make sure they are familiar with welding this material.

it would probably be easier and cheaper to find a used OEM cat back on ebay or the like. Finding a shop that has the capability to weld titanium may not be that easy plus finding a welder that is experienced at welding titanium is probably even harder. Then the cost involved to have a decent repair job would probably out way the cost of buying a used titanium set.
Thanks on the replys:
Yes, the TCL was off. I hate TCL because it really takes away from the feel of the HP. However, looking back, that was a mistake and probably whould have prevented the accident.
I found a set of Ti pipes for $400, but declined on that also, and had made a claim on my insurance to pay for a shop to do the repair. The shop has quoted $5900 to repair the rear right and muffler/pipe. The are going to cut of the bent bumper and weld a new one on (cool). Also they are replacing the plastic portion of the bumper too. They are replacing the muffler and pipe at a list price of $1400 as well. In the end I'll have a restored vet, for the cost of my deductible and what ever rate increase associated. Hope not to do that again

Vince:
HOLD down the traction control button until the DIC displays "Competitive Driving." This will turn the traction control off, but leave the active handling system on...it should prevent things like this from happening.
Thanks People,
Good points of interest. I'm learning the hard way. My car's been in the shop for almost a week getting repaired. DDNZ06, when I get it out of the shop, the AH will stay on, based on treads you sent (thanks). As pure punishment, my insurance only pays $25 per day so I ended up renting a little Korean car (it is just misserable).

I'm getting really excited about the idea of auto cross :>
Since you're in the Bay area, drive out to Infineon this weekend and check out an HPDE. NorCal Shelby will be running there both Saturday and Sunday and there are quite a few of us Brand X cars that run with them. If it interests you, you can catch a ride with somebody and see what it's like.

STOP!!! What you are doing
Just because the insurance company paid you $1,400 to "fix" the exhaust does not mean that is what you "have to" use that $$$ for. I had my insurance py me about that for a dent in the left can on my Borla Stingers. There was nothing wrong with them except a shallow 4" long dent. So I told the repair shop to put the Borlas back on and I used the $$ for headers instead.
You have the legal right to do as you wish with that $5,900 (of course I'm sure your lender expects it to be used to make the car whole again) For example, you could have L5 fenders purchased instead and all you would have to do is pay any difference in the cost of the fender it's self. There is NO WAY IN HELL I would give that shop $1,400 to repair your exhaust. You could go ahead and buy the used cat back for $400 and pocket the $1k to help pay the deductible or what ever. It's your $$ don't give it away to the shop.
