Default CCW Drag Package - Need Advise

I'm considering pulling the trigger on the CCW drag package (radials).
Spoke with Chip at CCW and he recommended 17 x 4.5 for the fronts w/185-55 MH and 16 x 10 in back w/255-50's MT dr's.

I'm ok with the front set-up but I'm not sure about the 255/50's being enough tire.

If anyone has pic's of this set up or has some recommendations, it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

if you are not going to go with a bias ply tire like an MT ET street, then wider is better. I would get the widest tire that I could squeeze onto a 16x10.

I'm not an expert in tires and would listen to the recommendations from CCW.

But, with that said, I am putting down ~ 800 RWHP and am at the track almost weekly (also racing for points in the Pro 10 DI class). However, I'm not using radials on the strip. I'm running a CCW Drag Pack (Classic series modular / polished wheels) with 26" Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag tires (26x11.5-16 LT Bias) on the rear and M&H Racemaster 4.5/26.0-17 bias skinnies up front. Prior to this, I was running M&H Cheater Slicks (DOT approved) Bias rears (same size as the M/T rears).

With this setup, I hook up nicely and am happy with the tires which, by the way, were recommended to me by CCW based on my setup. I would recommend both the M&H and M/T bias rears (made for use with tubes, but I run them tubeless).

I'm 600 at the wheels but with an A/T coming out off the foot brake. I also drive my car to the track so I would prefer a radial. I just thought a 255/50 seemed small . . .

Thanks!

you could step up to a 17" rear and use a 275/40-17, otherwise the 255 is the widest that you can get in a 16". What rear gear are you running? If you can get by with a 28" overall dia tire, then there are some more options.

Either way you go, I would be prepared to step up to an ET street at some point down the road.

Also you do realizes that you do not need a CCW drag pkg to run drag radials. I ran a set of BFG drag raidals on Z06 rears for a long time. I would lieave my front street tires on and simply swap the rear out before heading to the track. Much cheaper than the drag pkg.

Possibly a dumb question, but what is the advantage of running such skinny tires up front?

I too have an A/T. But, Good call... I would not drive to the track on mine unless it was real close to home. If you get caught in the rain, you're done on these. And, it's not too difficult to get a flat. For most events, I become a "trailer queen"...

But, I have driven to a few car shows on them and once you get past that "I'm driving on butter" feeling, they are ok (and DOT approved).

I usually change back to my street rim/tires if I am planning to go any distance, which are far from track tires But, ok for "normal" street driving: 19x9.5 Savini SV3 rims with 245/35ZR19 BFGoodrich KDW 2s up front and 20x10.5 Savini SV3 rims with 285/30ZR20 XL BFGoodrich KDW 2s on the rear... Here's a pic of the car in "Bling Mode" - LOL...

Let us know what you get

Dave

From what I hear it is good for a tenth at the track, plus, it just looks like you mean business

Right now my self made drag package are the optional C5 magnesium wheels with the skinniest (safest) tires mounted to 8.5's up front and BFG dr's on the 9.5's out back.

The only honest answer I can provide for wanting to buy the CCW drag package is for looks. I've been a 60' & 70's muscle car/pro street guy for a long time and like the look, skinnies. . . If I go with the CCW's I'll need to remove my big rotors on the rear and I'm not sure I what to do that either. My car looks more like a european sports car then a good old american muscle car.

We'll see!

Thanks
