[Z06] Z06 clones ??
I really like the looks of the Z06. Don't want to sell my 2001 coupe to buy a Z06. What
would people think if I put Z06 wheels and rear brake ducting ?? I already have the red
calipers and red fuel rails. Would this be considered a want-a-be ?? Would this hurt the
resale value ?? Let me hear your honest thought... good or bad....
It would be like trying to find a widebody kit for a C4 and putting a 3rd brake light up top. Not many people would even pick up on it, but those are the people that I wouldnt care about. Its teh ones that would pick it out as a "wanna be ZR1" who's opinions about the car MAY actually matter to me. Not that I really car what other people think about MY car, but I do value other peoples opinions.
Just my input. Your car is already awesome as it is...no need to put those parts on. There are plenty cooler things you could do with that money.
For the price of the Z06 rims....you could put on some very nice aftermarket wheels...and be very unique.
But hey, after seeing the Z06's run, I'd just have to say sell the coupe and get a Z06 anyways :-)

You can do a lot with the Coupe to make it yours without trying to copy a Z06. Start under the hood and leave the cosmetics until later. The wheels and the ducts won't make it run any better, so why bother? Anyone who knows the Z06 will just ridicule your car anyway.
Will it hurt resale? You bet!! If you are very lucky someone might pay more privately but a dealer won't want to touch it with a barge-pole.
:nono:
However, it's a free country and it's your car ...

But I do not think there is anything wrong with addding it to enhance the looks. ALthough personally if I were to buy aftermarket rims I would buy the Mallet 5 spoke 18" rims.

I am not looking to gain value in the car by making these mods. I just don't want to negatively impact the value
Fact is, the cost of wheels will be offset by the sale of my chrome Y2k OEM.
As for the  when someone finds out the car does not perform as it looks... Well, I will be spending the money on a SuperCharger. It will be able to mount a challenge to almost anything on the street.

Anyway, I have red fuel rail covers, Z06 wheels (chrome), painted my calipers red, and front screens on order. I would not put the rear brake ducts in because I don't like them!
You should do what YOU want to do! If someone does not like what I've done to my car, it really doesn't matter to me! I like what I've done and that's who cares!
Go for it! The brake vents in the rear require cutting the body up! Good luck! Don't much care for the looks of those black plastic ducts pushed into the side of the car myself but it's your car!
I'd say do it if you'd think you'd like it! :yesnod: :)

So you are concerned that dressing up your car in Z06 appearance trim might devalue your car? Have you taken a look at what adding a supercharger does to the resale value of your car? Try convincing a prospective buyer that the car was used conservatively, etc. ;)

You make a good point. This is not my first SuperCharged project. My 95 LT-1 was sweet as a Tiger on Steroids :)
I only got 20 cents on the dollar for my mods on that car. So maybe it's not the resale value that is on my mind. I guss I do care what others think of a Z06 clone. After reading these posts, it seems to be a slit of opinions.
More replies please
But you WILL,have a wonderful Vette.A vette cool in every way.And a good financial decision. Z owners spend too much money on these cars when any Corvette would do.The lowest Vette is better than many persons I know.
As far as the chrome Z06 wheels are concerned, I think they look great. I really like them on Glen Murphy's EB coupe. I hope I run into him in my local area someday so I can see them in person. Something about chrome wheels and EB that really looks sharp. I am not a big fan of chrome, but they work with the EB color.
You can put every Z06 part on the car, but just leave off the Z06 badges. After all, adding the Z06 calipers, wheels, screens, rear brake ducts, etc. is no different than adding aftermarket rotors, hoods, calipers, wheels, etc.
I consider a Z06 to be a factory-modded FRC. Corvette engineers are pretty smart, so adding these same Z06 parts to your coupe just shows that you recognize good engineering when you see it. As long as you don't add the Z06 badges your car is NOT a clone. It will be a tastefully modded coupe.
Enjoy your car. You bought it, so screw what other people think!
I dropped in from the C3 area to offer my .02 cents worth. Hopefully that's cool with all of you. If modifying your hardtop to look anything like a Z06 is distasteful or copying an identity etc.... etc.... The same would have to hold true for Z06 owners who convert their cars into Verts. Then there would be 97 coupe owners that install 02 style wheels. You can't forget small block C3's that feel the need for a rat motor. I guess what should matter is, where do you want to go with your Vette. You paid 40K or so.....I think you deserve the right to do what ever you want with it. Regardless of what you do. Aside from keeping it bone stock. Someone, somewhere will be accusing you of catching a ride on their wave. :U Please refrain from flaming, let's all just get along. As far as resale goes. Anything you do to your car that isn't factory narrows the market to some extent. It helps if everything can be put back to original status.

In the end there are only two things: the "real thing" or "the pimp".
Only you can decide which moniker suits you best. This is about how you value yourself, not your car.
