Are you ever scared to drive your car somewhere because you're afraid someone will steal, break in, or vandalize it? I wouldn't want a car that is so nice I couldn't drive it anywhere.

Thank you.

That's one of the reason I had no issue buying a high mile C5. It's a car I drive often, if not daily. It doesn't matter if it's a Vette or a Tempo, there is always a risk of someone messing with it.

Plus if it did get stolen, the insurance would probably pay better than I would ever be able to sell it for anyways

Scared no - but cautious where I park my vehicles. While someone can always mess with your car, a little precaution can lessen the chances. Besides, that's the whole reason I carry comprehensive coverage on my insurance policy - just in case some idiot decides to screw with the car.

You can be scared and not enjoy a Corvette or you can be careful and enjoy the hell out of one.

In posting here we can assume we all have a C5 of some type. Even if it is heavily modded, what would it cost for repairs? Not a usual car to get stolen, just broken into or vandalized. It isn't like these are Bentley's or Ferraris. Nice cars sure, but figure you can pick up a low mile Z06 for $25k easy, they aren't exactly only for the elite. If I had a brand new Z06 for $70k+ I'd be a bit more careful I guess.

not to mention it would be difficult to steal a C5 anyway without the actual key

Actually it would be funny to have someone steal a C5 thinking they're free and clear just to get the "Service Column Lock" message

I'm more worried about people damaging it than stealing it though. If it's stolen, I'd probably get all my money back from insurance. But if it's damaged (i.e. keyed), then that hurts resell value
Plus I baby this car, I would feel like my efforts have gone to waste.

But in the end, it's still just a car. Do Ferrari owners camp out in their garages to make sure it doesn't get stolen?

I am not so afraid of someone stealing or breaking into it as much as some dingbat slamming their door into mine. Old people are the worst.

So, yes. There are regular places that I will not take the Vette.

Common sense applies taking any car, any where. Insurance is there to take care of the other cases. If you think the C-5 is a hard car to take, the C-6 is worse by far! But, any tow-truck can hook one up and be gone in a flash...still can't start it.

^^^ LOL!!! ^^^

"You've stolen a broken car. Please tow to nearest GM dealership, pay to fix column and return the car to where you stole it from. Thank you."

I'm ALWAYS scared of being vandalized. I know it's a SERIOUS PITA to steal any VATS car and you really need to know what you're doing unless you have a tow truck. But in the 6 weeks I've had my car, I've had a couple of vandals hit my car gum, soda, etc... I don't know why other than jealousy. Someone came by my 300zx while I was out with the corvette and pulled the antenna off... Some people have no class or respect.
