I removed mine and covered the threads with a rubber cap. Radio stations still work just fine. Besides, my Zo6 is a driving machine, not a rolling jukebox.

This is true Joshua, but we humans do like music every now and then (other than the sound of our machines exhaust )
I admit it makes our cars look like r/c cars...they are kind of goofy. Once you give your antenna a good look then you keep thinking that is a huge antenna. That said i like my antenna but i do find myself taking it off sometimes and just putting a rubber cap over the threads. A shorty is on my list to find at carlisle tomorrow.

The shorty works ok - most of the time. I really would like to seal the hole and find another way to integrate an antenna inside the body of the car

Here is mine from Southern also. Just in case you would like to make your own, I threw in some measurements for you.
You can see the cap for the antenna lying on the trunk in the first pic.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think the cars which have HUD use a special windshield and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Z's use thinner windshield glass than the coupe does for weight savings. I have a shorty antenna which I keep on the car mostly for looks. I also keep the stock antenna in the trunk in case I might need it. I have a Sirius/XM radio installed so thats what I listen to mostly. The short antenna actually works better when I use the XM radio because it keeps stations from bleeding into the unused frequency that the sat radio is matched up to.
About the hud option.
I was told that all vette windshields will work with them whether they are "stamped" hud or not.
About the weight; you are correct. The Z's windshield is 5.7 lbs lighter, which was one of the main goals of the Z platform. There is also a huge cost difference between them, so don't let your insurance company or auto glass shop try pulling any fast ones. The convertible also shares the same windshield.
The 3" one from Southern Car Parts is the antenna I have and my reception is fine. But then again I live in the StL metropolitan area too.
I took some measurements and cut my factory antenna to match up with the roof line and put a black cap on the end. Looks much better now, and cost me about 5 minutes in labor
When I pulled my interior apart to install the stereo system and sound deadening, I found another factory antenna on the back tray, so I can return it to stock if I need to heh.
