The GM OEM hood seal part number 12345WTF? made here in the USA is the one to get. For those of ya'll that bought into the hoodseal produced in China to save the $2 difference in price from the real McCoy will see different dyno numbers due to the lack of quality control in both materials and finish/fit. The non-3M adhesive (I think rice oil is used to produce the adhesive on the unit made in China) also falls short of good and will fail soon after the install allowing the seal itself (search C5 Tech for "rubber seal failure") leaving you headers with a tough clean up and the smell of a dead Mustang (the horse!). The General's hoodseal comes long and is trim to fit opposed to the product brought in from offshore that is shorter than the opening, and as such allows the leak of hot engine compartment air to moisten the air to fuel mixture resulting in lower performance gains. "Penny wise and Dollar foolish!"
Thanks for the pic! I installed mine wrong then. It still looks OK and is pretty solid, however I swear over a case of cheap beer that I installed it according to the directions.
...or maybe I drank too much cheap beer before I installed it?!
Well I guess GM and the Chevy engineers just didn't think. Because that's the design they chose for every seal on the vehicle.
I'm just saying what is there. I guess they didn't think the adhesive tape used to seal the seam seals would fail due to moisture. Of course mine is in it's 8th year and so far all of them are holding up. And it sits outside all day long during the week at work getting all that moisture and rain.
Thats how GM gets more money out of their customers for those who want to keep things original!
Either I am getting old or some brain cells have escaped again but does the seal attach to the flange with the buttons or to the vertical front edge of the bumper cover.
Apparently, depending on where you buy this hood seal, determines how you install it.
My first hood seal was purchased at WCC and it is different than the hood seal for Mid America. I guess I did correctly install it with the sticky side against the vertical lip of the hood opening.
I just received a new hood seal from Mid America and per the pics above, you do install it with the sticky side down against the horizontal lip as this hood seal has a flat edge that sets up against the vertical lip very nicely.
As a result of having installed both hood seals, I recommend the one from Mid America more because it fits better due to the flat edge. Plus, the sticky side is face down and provides a better looking edge IMO.
