Now I understand !!! It's that "Force be with you" thing or something because I've I came home with this cool feeling that I only had once before in my life _____. I had crappy OEM brakes, Wide Oval tires, lost my prescription glasses...but...had a GREAT time anyway. MAZDA event but 30 or so c5/c6 and a great instructor ! Summary...passed a Viper twice, ran behind a '10 Nisson NSR for several laps and got passed by a mini Cooper just after "Oak Tree" and I glanced at guages and I was at 132 !!! Looked like the Love Bug or something.
Good for you, and congradulations. Once its in you, its in you forever. VIR is a beautiful track, the uphill esses are great the back straight into (I thik its called) the corkscrew is awesome. I've only had the chance to run it for two days, but goddamn its was fun.
For me...no problem except smell and brake dust. They were NAPA semi-metallic, OEM type...jobber price was in the $60's. Instructor drove it and said they were so-so. I noticed little or no fade...just squealed a bit just after a run... Good program with GREAT classes !
... no matter how we describe it. You just have to do it and see for yourself. That is where these cars belong. Glad you had a good time. VIR is an awesome track. Mazda drivers puts on a good event. Wish I could have made it.
welcome to the addiction! I used to be an avid drag racer until a few years ago when I finally did my first HPDE... I knew at that moment, just like you did, that this was IT!
I think you're spoiled for your first time though, from what I heard VIR is an awesome course. Luckly for you summit point & shenandoah are not too far away.
Get over to the RR section of the forums, you have alot of homework to do
It is a blast. I have done like 16 events and every time it is the same feeling right before going out for the first session, and the same feeling coming in from the first session - AWESOME. The addiction is like the line in the Robert Palmer song - "She's so fine, there's no telling where the money went!". Prepare thy wallet. You will need to adjust your Forum link to take you straight to the Road Racing section, because you will be there a lot - plenty of info and direction there. There is a really good thread for newbies about "HPDEs - What I have learned". Read that one a few times.
Hint...There were, I believe, three c5 serpentine belts thrown ! NAPA, CarQuest et. al can get a tensioner that will prevent this. Gates #38328. Looks like C6 one which doesn't do this. PM me if you have a 'newbie" question. Way more intense than I guessed and it ain't for garage queens !

Now for the guys in the "trolling for on ramps" thread: This is what it's about.
