Yes, but you won't like the ratio change.
Right now you have a 3.42 auto's are 2.73 or 3.15.

It will not be as quick acceleration-wise. You will not be pleased. But, if you're bent on doing it, make sure you pull the A4 adapter plate off the front before installing it.

The plate that needs to come off.

Plate still on the diff.

Seeing you have a 6 speed with 3.42 gears and you want to install a diff out of an automatic you will be sorry, Not only will you lose top speed, You will lose your acceleration, 2.73 gears are to high for a 6 speed trans, I know you can find a good used diff if you look with the correct gears of 3.42, No way I would install 2.73 gears in a car with a 6 speed.
Keep in mind you will also have to have the computer re tunned for the different gears.
Let the car sit till you find the correct one.

You don't have to do anything to retune for gears with a manual tranny only and automatic and that is to correct the shift points.

You'll have a higher top-end but much slower acceleration.

Just posting for informational purposes about the auto transmissions and manual difference.

You can do gear changes on manuals with no re-tuning, unlike auto's where you have to change shift points.

Also need to adjust for changes in tire diameter on either one if you change significantly.

I just thought that not having the correct gears would mess with the revlimiter... In some way.

That is RPM related to motor, the differential control speed reading via sensor to PCM.

Only effects shift points because change in gears changes RPM levels in an auto which is what PCM uses to shift gears.

You do NOT have to do any programming with a 6 speed. Only on A4s to change the shift points.

I would not put 2.73s or 3.15s in a 6 speed.

OP

When you say it's "going out" what exactly do you mean?

Man I love reading this forum . The info is second to none, and I mean that.

To the OP, like a few others have said, if I were you, it would sit until a 342 showed up. Put a WTB in the parts section.

I would just get the 342s rebuilt. Getting a pumpkin from a auto is a poor choice for your application.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune with your diff...

If you are going to replace it, you may as well get 3.90 or 4.10 ratio. Depending on where you are located, there are several good shops around the country that can do a good job, or order one from DTE.

It will really wake up you car. I love the 4.10s in my car.

Best of success in what ever you do.
